A Sacramento man once described by a judge as "the monster parents fear the most" seemed destined to spend the rest of his life in prison after he was convicted of 16 counts of kidnapping and child molestation in 1999.
Instead, he is now set to go free after being granted elderly parole — much to the anger and horror of some of his victims, as well as the prosecutor who oversaw his case.
"He shouldn't be breathing the same air that we're breathing at all," one victim, who was kidnapped and assaulted when she was just 4 years old, told The Times in an interview. "I disagree with him getting paroled out because he's a horrible person. That man is a monster."
David Allen Funston approached children playing outside their homes in the Sacramento suburbs and used candy and toys to lure them into his vehicle in 1995 and 1996, prosecutors said.
Following his conviction, he was sentenced to 20 years and 8 months in prison, as well as three consecutive sentences of 25 years to life. Now 64, he is incarcerated at the California Institution for Men in Chino.

They know what needs to be done. Do they dare do it?
This is a case when life doesn’t mean life, the only acceptable sentence for people like this is the death penalty.
Here in Florida, we are on a run riding the prison system of people like this, we executed 19 last year and have already executed 2-3 more this year.
Democrats love turning “monsters” loose on society. Still society continues to return them to office so they do it over and over again.
How did a chomo survive prison?
He shouldn’t survive parole.
I've been thinking a lot about this lately.
In the past, I have envisioned elderly men who might be widowers, with grown children who have successfully built lives for themselves. The old man doesn't have a lot going on and might decide ... "I know how I can improve society".
But more recently I have been thinking about younger men. They may have given up on marriage and children. They are not Chad, so they have no real hope of having a family. And if they have a job, it may be a dead end, they may have no hope of ever owning a home and even paying rent may be a struggle. They may be working very hard and they may be going nowhere. Young women may have a tendency to be AWFUL, but young men may have much stronger sense of right and wrong. They may be "based". And they may come to the conclusion that "I know how I can best make a contribution".
I think we might start to see stuff.
It’s easier to destroy a society if you let criminals roam your streets.
I suspect they're more likely to continue the trend of, "The problems of a society of Chads and AWFuLs are theirs, not mine. Let them deal with it. I'm out."
So what office is he running for (as a Democrat, of course).
Newsom saying, “It’s the California way.” The ads are writing themselves.
If he made it to a city of refuge, he could stay. If he left, the victims family could avenge him. 64 is not elderly. Mark today and remember he will kidnap and this time kill and hide the victims. These people are crazy.

Educate yourself about statistics regarding Gen Z. The women are much further to the Left than then men in that generational cohort. It’s just a fact.
It’s like the Hustler magazine evil cartoons of Chester the Molester became a game plan of the left. The weird and deviant somewhere became a goal of Democrats.
Put Funston in an apartment next to the people who let him loose.
Maybe it depends on the ones you hang around with. I know quite a few of them, and they’re conservative folks, and know the difference between right and wrong.
He will have to register as a sex offender and be put on the sex offender database. When that happens, he will be fair game to the public.
