Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) on Sunday said former Attorney General Merrick Garland “performed better” than Attorney General Pam Bondi did during her testimony before a House panel examining the Justice Department and its handling of the Jeffrey Epstein investigation.
“I don’t think she did very well. She came with a book full of insults, one for each congressperson. She obviously had one for me,” Massie said on ABC News’s “This Week.”
“And, you know, I’ve been there when Merrick Garland was there. Obviously, politically, I don’t agree with him, but he performed much better in terms of at least not looking bad. And, unfortunately, we didn’t get the answers we wanted about the Epstein files,” he added.
Bondi went head-to-head with lawmakers in a fiery hearing on Wednesday as the country’s top lawyer appeared before the House Judiciary Committee for the first time since taking office.
She fielded questions on issues ranging from pending investigations into President Trump’s adversaries to immigration, but the most tense exchanges came over the Epstein files.
Bondi repeatedly pushed back on lawmakers during the hearing, asking why they didn’t demand answers about the Epstein investigation under prior administrations, mentioning Garland.
“I’m glad you’re asking about Merrick Garland,” Massie said during the Wednesday hearing.
“This is bigger than Watergate. This goes over four administrations. You don’t have to go back to Biden. Let’s go back to Obama. Let’s go back to George [W.] Bush. This cover-up spans decades, and you are responsible for this portion of it,” he added.
