Recruiters and propagandists who previously worked for Russia’s Wagner Group have emerged as a main conduit for Kremlin-organised sabotage attacks in Europe, according to western intelligence officials.

The fighter group’s status has been uncertain since a failed rebellion against the top brass of the Russian army in June 2023 prompted a clampdown and the death of its founder, Yevgeny Prigozhin.

But Wagner recruiters who specialised in persuading young men from Russia’s hinterland to fight in Ukraine have been given a new task — recruiting economically vulnerable Europeans to carry out violence on Nato soil, the officials said.

Rebranding. I had not heard much about Wagner since the rebellion but there is a talent pool to draw from. The GRU and FSB probably think the pool may be useful for special tasks. If the tasks succeed, then the objective is met. If it fails them the secretary will disavow all knowledge.

When these same Europeans condemn the sabotage of the Nord Steam pipelines, maybe they will have the moral high ground to condemn these alleged acts.

The hypocrisy is pathetic and laughable.

European sabotage?

The EU and U.K. sabotaged themselves years ago....then blowing up the Nordstream energy lifeline....the EU is a bigger threat than Russia ever was or will be.

Best we reinstate full Trade and Commerce with Russia, they have much of what the West needs.

Yup. I see Europe as a lost cause. Islam took it.

I see zero chance that Russia will invade us through Canada.
I see zero chance that Russia will suddenly nuke us.

Russia is a natural ally. I would not sell them uranium (like Hillary did) but I think trade is mutually beneficial. Screw Ukraine. Screw Europe. We should try to establish partnerships with Russia.

Article is behind a paywall. Did it have any examples or evidence?

My first attempt to access it was successful. Subsequent attempts have not been. Sorry. I remember that it did mention having two layers of deniability. It did mention some examples, but I don’t remember the details now.
