The end of the Trump administration's Minnesota operation comes as immigration hawks have pushed Trump officials to avoid caving to Democratic policy demands.
The Trump administration’s decision to end its immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis could undermine Democrats’ messaging leverage on the eve of an expected partial government shutdown.
By pulling out of Minneapolis — the epicenter of the left’s fight to overhaul federal immigration enforcement after federal agents killed two American citizens — administration officials and allies argue that Democrats will lose political steam as attention gradually fades from the administration’s aggressive enforcement actions.
“I know everyone was concerned about ICE’s future if we kept acting like idiots,” said an administration official, granted anonymity to speak candidly. “If we are really doing our job well, you won’t notice or have anything to complain about.”
“It’s a side effect of Tom [Homan]’s leadership,” the person added, pointing to the hope that the border czar’s presence in Minneapolis could tame tensions on the ground.
The administration’s retreat in Minnesota comes as immigration hawks have pushed Trump officials to stand firm and avoid caving to Democratic demands on policy changes in exchange for funding the Department of Homeland Security. Those demands have included a prohibition on federal agents wearing masks to an expansive limit on places where agents can operate. The belief among some administration officials and allies is that Democrats will...

It seems to indicate that the rioters have won, rioting works and more will work too. That cannot be allowed to stand.
I can’t see how surrendering will dampen Democrats’ enthusiasm.
Seems to me like surrender to the mob...
“””I can’t see how surrendering will dampen Democrats’ enthusiasm.”””
The only people to surrender were Walz, Ellison and Frey. In the beginning they said absolutely no way would they let ICE be notified of criminal illegals being released from jail so they could be picked up. Now ICE can do just that. Last week the rioters were very mad because ICE was able to get some illegals at the Hennepin County courthouse.
Now ICE can focus on other cities. The rioters can follow if they want but the police won’t stand down like they do in Minneapolistasn.
Going in high profile is what allowed the agitators to get their George Floyds.
There was no need to do that.
Turn off all the transfer payments and freebies to illegals and they will leave of their own accord.
It’s not rocket surgery.
It’s not a retreat.
The article sounds scared, to me. I am thinking that the Trump admin is running circles around them.
Your description is contradicted by the article, but a lot is open to interpretation (otherwise known as spin.)
What we inarguably know is that Bovino...the face of immigration enforcement...was booted out of theater and that President Trump has said, “I learned that maybe we could use a little bit of a softer touch.”
Homan got all 87 Sheriffs to agree to let ICE know when they are releasing them. That was strictly prohibited by the sanctuary policies. That is a huge win. Perhaps you were led to believe that all ICE agents are leaving the state.
Ditto - Homan says the local jails are now cooperating with ICE
Sheriff Witt of Hennepin County (home of Minneapolis) seems pretty guarded in her comments as to how far she’s willing to go. Most of the other counties aren’t worth bothering with.
And the notifications she’s considering are for serious crime charges, not for the bread-and-butter visa violations that have made up the bulk of ICE arrests. She also said she wanted judicial warrants for jail releases to be turned over, a condition rarely met by ICE till now.
Better to play rack a mole around the Nation. Ice is now operating extensively in the Philly area.
I hope, this will be lumped with significant enforcement elsewhere.
In that case, Minnesota may be swamped with illegal aliens, until they will cry uncle!
“ Seems to me like surrender to the mob...”
Nope. They did the job they came to do.
Move on elsewhere.
They’re just pulling back and wait for them to float to the top ,LOL

She will go along when she finds out her federal funding will disappear if she doesn’t. It is interesting you think the other 86 counties don’t matter.
LOL! Wishin’. Ain’t happening. We’re all going to have King Skyhook Hakeem’s Negro core values or else.
So there’s no more illegals in MSP?
