Elon Musk's xAI to build $20 billion data center in Mississippi

KEY POINTS

$20 billion investment: Elon Musk’s xAI will build the MACROHARDRR data center in Southaven, Mississippi — the largest private investment in the state — as part of a Memphis-area cluster the company says will house the world’s largest supercomputer with 2 gigawatts of computing power. Environmental and community opposition: the NAACP, the Southern Environmental Law Center and local groups have raised air-pollution and environmental-justice concerns tied to xAI’s Memphis-area facilities, and a Southaven petition against the developments has more than 900 signatures.

Generous incentives: under a 2024 data-center law Mississippi will waive state sales, corporate income and franchise taxes and local authorities agreed to substantially reduced property taxes, while officials say the project will bring hundreds of permanent jobs and thousands of indirect positions.

Timing and responses: xAI did not immediately answer questions about environmental concerns, the governor’s office says environmental responsibility is a “core commitment,” and operations in Southaven are expected to begin next month. MarketBeat previews top five stocks to own in March.

I think he takes that into consideration but it’s not the #1 factor.

Musk has done more for mankind than almost anyone else alive today.
I doubt he's going to be put out of business by a bunch of far left grifters in the south who can smell his money and want to steal as much of it as they can.

Prediction: Musk will be first to colonize the moon before he moves on to Mars.

A gigawatt is a measure of electrical power. It might be how much power this data center will consume, and that is serious business. But a watt is a measure of power.

Do we still measure AI computing in FLOPs, FLOating Point operations, like we did “supercompters”?

Anyway, watts does not do it.

If it pisses off the NAACP and the eco-nuts, then I’m 100% for it.

The NAACP and SPLC have met their match in my opinion. Elon will kick their ass over the moon like he just did the EU.

Anyone here who is a fan of AI or Data Centers needs to turn in their Conservative Card immediately.

I wouldn’t put that massive investment anywhere near that area. Data centers in space would be better.

Such a datacenter costs more than an aircraft carrier.

And there will be dozens of them.

“Anyone here who is a fan of AI or Data Centers needs to turn in their Conservative Card immediately.”

Because you get to define “conservative”.

"Who here sincerely believes Musk cares about everyday Americans?"

From things he has said, he know the US is the last bastion of freedom in the world otherwise he would be living and working elsewhere. He also has spoken out about falling White birth rates and replacement immigration.

I sincerely believe he does care about everyday Americans and he wants what's best for them.

I do. His whole life has been working towards expanding civilization off planet. H-bombs have been around since the 50's. He is almost in a race to get some people off planet for that awful day when nuclear war actually occurs .

Nuclear war?

Doubt it.

Realistically, at this point the West is going to cease to exist, maybe by 2050.

USA is not looking too good, we're one election away.

Don’t worry, if you think like that, AI and Musk will define ‘conservative’ for you.
