Drones operated by Mexican drug cartels entered US airspace late Tuesday, forcing a brief closure of the skies over El Paso, Texas, a Trump administration official told The Post Wednesday morning.
“Mexican cartel drones breached US airspace,” the official said. “The Department of War took action to disable the drones. The FAA and DOW have determined there is no threat to commercial travel.”
The Federal Aviation Administration initially announced a 10-day restriction on air traffic over the border city, effective at 11:30 p.m. local time (1:30 a.m. ET Wednesday).
Fewer than eight hours later, the FAA wrote on X: “The temporary closure of airspace over El Paso has been lifted. There is no threat to commercial aviation. All flights will resume as normal.”
The agency had cited “special security reasons” for restricting flights into and out of a US-based international airport for the first time since after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks on New York and Washington.
The initial closure announcement caused an outcry among local officials, who complained of a lack of warning.

The Mexican drug cartels are under the control of the “master cartel” - Cartel del Sol, which is the mob arm of the Venezuelan government, according to Venezuelan whistleblowers. Delcy Rodriguez is doing the same old stuff as Maduro. This is basically a declaration of war by Delcy’s government. I hope Trump’s people respond accordingly in their work to stabilize Venezuela.

At some point the US must stop using million dollar missiles to take down thousand dollar drones.
Shoot them down with surplus Nike missiles with 40 kt warheads 25 miles south of border. That should get there attention.
Drug drones? Surveillance? Did they crash or what?
The article doesn’t say.
True.
Too bad the article wasn’t more specific.
I assumed it meant they were successfully electronically jammed, so that the cartel lost operational control.
“complained of a lack of warning”
STFU “local officials.” When there may be an active threat, you don’t wait to warn local bureaucrats.
Well, the threat wasn’t manpads, like many were speculating on another thread.
Why, the nerve of those drug cartels! Not giving "local officials" a warning of their planned intrusion. Where's their common decency?
Did we use million dollar missiles? Serous question. I didn’t see that in the article or some (few) searches I performed. Other options exist, for example directional EMP. Costs a few bucks to fire.
Serious question^*
I hope so.
Its good to disable the drones but better to disable the source of the drones. A display of strength and resolve is the only thing that will discourage such activity.
That appears to be the norm at this time.
