Labour MPs have called for Sir Keir Starmer to stand down after his chief of staff was forced to quit Downing Street over the Peter Mandelson scandal.

Morgan McSweeney resigned today after pushing for the appointment of Lord Mandelson as Britain's ambassador to the US.

While Mr McSweeney has been one of Sir Keir's closest aides for nearly six years and was considered instrumental in his 2024 election victory, his departure has been far from unanimously mourned within the Party.

'I won't be shedding a tear that he's gone,' one anonymous Labour MP said.

'He's the very worst of our party, every decision he's taken is to bolster himself and wage a war of factionalism.

'The buck ultimately stops with the PM. All this has done has bought him a little more time but he's mortally wounded and it's not if, it's when he goes.'

Sir Keir has been a loyal defender of Mr McSweeney and many Labour MPs now believe it would be best if the Prime Minister followed his aide out of the door.

Brian Leishman, the Labour MP for Alloa and Grangemouth, said: 'There must be a change in political direction and that comes from the very top.

Most Amusing but strange as resignations seem to be falling like snow. Minor errors do not cause this. Those boys really made errors, and fortunately labor. I would not be surprised to find a conservative also. Young nubile women verses heroin is easy. The lady always wins. When combined you always lose.

The thing about being in Labor, since it so feminized since the 1990s, it is very emasculating to deal with, think you will find only the perverts of men remain on the English left. The English “conservatives” already was full of very weak men who leaned on the “the system” for any semblance of the appearance of a backbone. UKIP, Reform are the vertebrates left to recover the island from the swamp of the EU with enough fortitude to say the government state and does not own us.

Their press is bound by a different set of rules - also, Labour is likely “lightening the troika” to try to remain in power.
