WASHINGTON — Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., leads a committee on Capitol Hill that has jurisdiction over the Department of Homeland Security.
That agency has been under heightened scrutiny after federal agents shot and killed two U.S. citizens who were protesting immigration enforcement operations in Minneapolis last month.
In letters to the heads of three federal immigration agencies, Paul wrote, “The Department of Homeland Security has been provided an exceptional amount of funding to secure our borders and enforce our immigration laws. Congress has an obligation to conduct oversight of those tax dollars and ensure the funding is used to accomplish the mission, provide proper support for our law enforcement, and, most importantly, protect the American people.”
Paul said the leaders of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services have agreed to testify next week on Feb. 12.
In an appearance on CBS’ “60 Minutes” Sunday, the senator said he saw no evidence that Alex Pretti, one of the Minneapolis residents killed, was assaulting agents, and he said that trust in federal immigration enforcement is broken.
“My job is always to try to ascertain the truth and try to do what’s right, regardless of party,” said Paul. “People are gonna watch this and they’re gonna say, ‘Oh, you’re cooperating with the Democrats. You’re having a hearing.’ And it’s not. I want ICE to be able to work, and I want ICE to have trust. So, I’m not some bomb thrower from the left that wants to get rid of ICE. I want ICE to function, but I want to restore trust in ICE.”

He’s a Democrat who wants more illegals molesting and stealing on the streets in the U.S.
Let’s just be honest.
Spoken like a true, traditional democrat. A shallow, devious, partisan democrat
“Please read the bolded section carefully. Rand is doing his job”
Yeah, and restore trust in ICE is the Democrat party line. only Democrats are claiming ICE has lost the trust of the American people.
It’s time for Rand to hang it up.
You must be his mrother or a brother to stay loyal to someone like that.
Seriously just screw off Rand Paul!
He’s a POS.
That’s precisely what a Saboteur would say while he puts the knife in your back.
Lindsey Graham, Pence, & Thune all depend on the idiots in the Republican Party to provide them cover while they do their damage.
CBS & CNN wouldn’t be running to Rand Paul unless they knew he was going to advance their cause.
As a Kentucky voter I can hardly wait to vote his open border losertarian ass the hell out of office in a primary.
Although it is true that Democrats will cynically adopt the language of adversaries, that does not magically make constitutional conservatives one of them.
The difference between Rand Paul and devious, partisan Democrats is true adherence to the Constitution. Although a libertarian, Paul nevertheless can properly be counted among honest constitutionalists.
Because Rand Paul puts his view of the Constitution above political expediency, sometimes even practical reality, we become frustrated because the problem is, Rand Paul is taking a knife to a gunfight.
The Democrats wage asymmetrical warfare, risking ruin to the point of national suicide at no political risk to themselves because they are shielded by the media. Democrats are willing to destroy the country to rule. Rand Paul is not willing to depart from his view of the Constitution to save the constitutional Republic from the Democrats. One is cynical and selfish the other is moral and ethical.
That distinguishes Rand Paul from a RINO. When John McCain cast the fatal vote that saved Obamacare, he was not acting on constitutional principle but out of pique. There is a difference.
Politicians like John McCain had allegiance only to their own view of the world but Rand Paul is faithful to his constitutional/libertarian worldview.
So Rand Paul brings a knife to a gunfight. When it costs us, as it might cost us now, we tend to get personal, but for Rand Paul, the matter is one of conscience.
The people who were shot were committing felony riots, not protesting.
I’m really beginning to hate this guy. All he does is stab Trump in the back.
Rand is a fraud. Over and over, he said he was going to bring Fauci in front of Congress. He never did it. He is a liar. He needs to be voted out of office.
“he said he was going to bring Fauci in front of Congress.”
He’d go a long way toward redeeming himself if he’d go hard-ass on Fauci. Still, bringing him in front of Congress would just be theater. If a three-letter agency sent teams to arrest and bring him in, I might be impressed.
BTW - WHY is he still walking free on this earth? I expected he’d be one of the first to be hit. All those press conferences on stage making Trump look like a fool ... I can’t believe PDJT hasn’t made this an issue. Birx also needs to pay. (Now she’s a contributor on Newsmax. 😒)
Do you know and can you assert that Rand Paul had the unilateral power to compel Fauci to testify since January 2025? Did he ask Republicans on the committee to form a majority to force a subpoena over Democrats objection?
You alleged the fraud, you have to show affirmatively that he failed to do what he might have been able to do. You gotta move beyond a naked assertion.
I now find The Ditch Turtle to be a threat to national and Kentucky security.
Maybe Rand can get to the bottom of that issue....
