Greek authorities announced an operation to identify and close all illegal mosques in the Municipality of Athens, along with deporting the foreigners who operate them. The Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Thanos Plevris, speaking about the operation of illegal mosques in Athens, said that "those who do not comply with Greek legislation will automatically be deported."
Speaking at the meeting of the parliamentary Public Administration Committee, where the bill on legal immigration is being discussed, he referred to the recent decision to revoke the legal residence permit of a Bangladeshi man because he was illegally operating a place of worship in the Agios Nikolaos area of the Municipality of Athens.
"What happened in Agios Nikolaos will happen everywhere. In all illegal mosques, with a parallel revocation of the legal documents of those who operate them. In cooperation with the relevant ministries, the illegal mosques will be closed, and those involved will be deported," said the Minister of Immigration and Asylum.
The Bangladeshi national who received deportation orders for operating an illegal mosque marks the first application of the new provision: the illegal operation of places of worship not only carries criminal penalties but can also result in the revocation of residence permits.
The case began after a complaint, when police officers from the Agios Panteleimonas Police Station located the place of worship in the Agios Nikolaos area. The site was sealed off, and the Bangladeshi was sentenced to prison for operating a place of worship without a permit.
Immigration and Asylum Minister Thanos Plevris requested the immediate application of Article 28 of Law 5224/2025. Following this, a deportation order was issued with no deadline for voluntary departure, meaning no time was given to leave the country voluntarily.
The Ministry of Immigration and Asylum notes that immediate information has been requested regarding such incidents, with the aim of activating summary procedures to revoke residence permits.
Greek authorities want to send the message that unlicensed places of worship will no longer be tolerated.
The case also highlights the broader issue of unlicensed places of worship in Attica.
According to reports, the number of illegal places still operating in Athens is approaching 60, while earlier estimates, at the beginning of the last decade, even mentioned over 100 places – from basements and apartments to warehouses or parking lots – without basic specifications, such as ventilation or toilets.

remigration.
Amelia approves.
Orthodox nations in Eastern Europe will survive.

Thanks for the good news !
Good call. Hopefully, the US and all other western countries will do the same.
That’s a start.
IMO, it should be all mosques as I suspect they are all nothing but armories for islamists in whatever community they are in. But that’s just me.
Once again, Greece leading the way. First Democracy, and now this.
but but but the New Greeks (and New Americans) have been raised to look forward to their Hijra since they’re brain washed to expect that Jihad will inevitably conquer the unbelievers and they will feast on our young women.
such legislation is highly confusing to these zombie body snatching drones/orcs
Across the entire Muslim world, Islam is HIGHLY regulated. There are no cross-border accepted and independent Islam leaders like the Catholic Pope or Orthodox Patriarch. They are all monitored and regulated by government.
Every government in the islamic world runs and controls Muslim universities, makes sure leading Imams are approved, and tow the government line and approves texts and publishing. This even is the case in places where Muslims are a minority - India and Singapore, for example.
Islam is therefore COMPLETELY incompatible with Western (and particularly American) notions of freedom of religion and the US 1st Amendment.
Allowing Islam to grow in the West means we WILL get the wild weeds of Islam. We will get dissidents and radicals not allowed in their home countries (Turkey comes to mind). We will get Islamic government agents from places like Saudi Arabia, promoting their own interests. We will get extreme radicals too.
Greece at least is smartly trimming the weeds. I supposed it’s the best they can do in the present dysfunctional and neo-marxist EU system. They should be uprooting Islam entirely.
According to freedom of religion in the West, no one is keeping an eye on Islam.
Seems like we'll have to amend the Constitution if we want to regulate Islam.
We are here and we can't go back in time. Eventually, it'll become an issue.
