In the wake of Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s rise, his hard-left Democratic Socialists of America are looking to eat up more offices now held by older-school Democrats — and the moribund, corruption-plagued Dem establishment may lack the fortitude to resist. It certainly doesn’t show any hint of plans for a counter-attack: The old guard’s prospered so long by attacking Republicans from the left, it doesn’t have a clue how to stave off the same assault by the hard left.
The DSA is targeting multiple seats in the Legislature this year, plus at least two House contests, and early signs are grim for traditional Dems. Notably, Rep. Gregory Meeks and his Queens Democratic machine find themselves compelled to back the DSA’s choice, Diana Moreno, in the Feb. 3 special election to fill Mamdani’s former Assembly seat.
Meeks, who didn’t endorse Mamdani last year, has little choice but to support Moreno or be humiliated in “The People’s Republic of Astoria,” an area represented by DSAers in the City Council, state Legislature and Congress.

There are a lot of FReepers around here who would swear up and down, the Democratic Party(DNC) is already today the party of socialism, not progressivism.
So how does the socialist party take over the socialist party? It is impossible to not ask this question.

My comment:
I don’t believe the socialists can successfully take over the party of progressivism, the progressive Democrat Party.(DNC) Progressives already won this fight and progressives have continued winning this fight for over a century.
The socialists will be city exclusives and it will end there. NYC, LA, Chicago, Atlanta, Seattle, Portland, Kansas City, anywhere you have city monoculture built up around OPM. Other People’s Money. That’s the only place where socialists can thrive.

Um. Isn’t this a self-indictment of us as conservatives?
In the last 50 years and more years, this isn’t a newly uncovered secret, where has there ever been a big movement of conservatives to stop the indoctrination?
I’ve never seen it. Never once.
So if we all know about the indoctrination and we all are doing nothing about it, why? Why does nothing ever happen?
Dr. Frankenstein desired glory and believed equality with God as something to be grasped for. And so, as God created man in His image, Dr. Frankenstein sought to create something in his own image to reflect his own greatness and achievement.
And thus he set about to create the Creature, against the wise counsel and better judgment of those around him. Nevertheless he pressed on and brought his creation to life. And then, ultimately, recoiled in horror later as the Creature lurched forward and systematically destroyed everything and everyone Dr. Frankenstein loved and knew.
Easy answer: Supposedly in the pursuit of ideological purity. But really a lust for power.
Purity can never be realized, because pure socialism is incompatible with human nature, and so they will eventually turn on each other.
History repeats.
AOC will replace Chuck Schumer in 2028.

Easy answer is not all that easy.
We can point to at least 7 if not 10 progressive presidents in the last 125 years;
The vast majority of which not a soul would call “socialist”.
We cannot keep up this cognitive disconnect forever. If we want to say all progressives are socialists, we need to mean it and stop being cowards.
Or else, stop speaking a lie. One or the other has to ring true but it can’t be both.
All progressives are socialists unless they can prove otherwise.
