Trump, Chuck Schumer agree on government funding deal, but partial shutdown still in the cards

President Trump and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) reached an agreement Thursday on a deal to keep the government funded — but it likely won’t be approved in time to avert a partial shutdown.

The deal would strip funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from a six-bill package that cleared the House last week to keep a large swath of the government open through the end of the fiscal year.

A two-week extension for DHS, which oversees the federal law enforcement agencies handling the administration’s controversial immigration crackdown, will be provided under the terms of the deal.

The separation of the five bipartisan bills the Democrats asked for, plus the two-week DHS [continuing resolution] has been agreed to,” Schumer said in a statement. ***

Democrats want to clawback the funding of DHS under the Big Beautiful Bill.

Chuck Schumer said that Democrats want “an end to roving patrols” of ICE agents in U.S. cities, while calling for a solution that would require warrants and coordination with local and state law enforcement.

Schumer also said Democrats want “to enforce accountability,” with the Senate Democratic leader adding that “federal agents should be held to the same use-of-force policies that apply to state and local law enforcement, and be held accountable when they violate these rules.”

Democrats also want reforms that would require ICE and other immigration agents to wear body cameras, remove masks, and always carry proper state identification while carrying out immigration enforcement activities.

I dont understand how removing it will be beneficial. What leverage will republicans have when this bill comes around? It sounds like once again we give all and get nothing.

Comrade Chuck Schumer said that Democrats want “an end to roving patrols.

Aiding and abetting the enemy again it’s a never ending issue with the democrats.

What you appear to be lacking is faith in the man we elected president.

Chill.

He’s got this.

Sounds to me like this is one “deal” that bit Trump on the ass. Schumer and King Hakeem the Wilson Football head beat his ass.

Why is Trump agreeing to this?!

I don’t know. A wild guess is he may not want a government shutdown while he is contemplating bombing Iran. However, this doesn’t align with America first. I’m at a loss.

Cameras are ok. But the rest puts agents at risk and perhaps under control of state and locals, not acceptable, Chuck U Schumer.

If he starts caving on illegals, his Presidency is over.

The ironic thing is it doesn't matter how many concessions he makes: if the Dems win in 2028, he, his family, members of the administration and donors will all be arrested and jailed.

That's also why the Insurrection Act should have been invoked in MN. The Dem party needs to be suppressed as a clear and present danger. He seems clueless as to the depth of evil and the threat the Democrats represent as an institution.

Trump seems to think if he has a good one on one call with Schumer or Walz everything is back to normal without realizing they'll turn on him on a dime, seize everything he owns and jail him the minute they can.

If people think Trump has to worry about "independents" being turned off for the next election then they, like the RINOs in Congress, think this is still a normal political situation. It isn't. If the Dems win they will arrest Trump and everyone associated with him, pack SCOTUS (say hello to Roe again and goodbye to Heller and Bruen), and admit DC and PR as states. We'll get a permanent Dem one-party fascist state.

So the issue isn't just illegal immigration, it's about suppressing the Dem party permanently and Trump is blowing the opportunity to do so.

A man who wrote the “Art of the Deal” loses on every deal with Democrats.

How odd!

Fleeing is not Trump's style. I would expect others to do so, which is what Erik Prince did when it really looked like leftist Dems were going to prosecute him for Blackwater ops in Iraq.

What I can't believe is how easily he seems to let Schumer, Walz, etc., blow smoke up his butt.
