Key Points

On Tesla’s fourth-quarter earnings call, CEO Elon Musk said the company is ending production of its Model S and X vehicles.

“It’s time to basically bring the Model S and X programs to an end with an honorable discharge,” Musk said.

Tesla beat estimates for the quarter but still wrapped up its first annual sales decline on record.

SNIP

Tesla is developing Optimus with the aim of someday selling it as a bipedal, intelligent robot capable of everything from factory work to babysitting. The company said in the release that it plans to unveil the third generation of Optimus this quarter, its “first design meant for mass production.”

I already have an Optimus. Got it from Radio Shack years ago.

I suppose the leftovers could have the tops replaced with a canopy and sold to golf courses.

The product was not the car but the knowledge.

It doesn’t mean robots are suddenly more popular, but it does mean electric cars are suddenly less popular.

It’s the alternative to idle Tesla car factories.

I just found out that Elon named Tesla after Nikola Tesla...the inventor of AC. He felt that Nikola never got the credit due. There are two awesome statues in Niagara Falls of Nikola.

He died in NYC, a recluse, with 33 cents to his name.

Take a look at the statues in Niagara. Awesome!

S and X have very few sales anyway.
Better to concentrate on the Cybercab.

Kraftwerk? Strictly German. Maybe BMW or Mercedes will make those models.

There will never be a robot in my home for anything. EVER!

The creep factor alone bars it from my door.

A successful company carries out rigorous forecasting. Not going to need many cars after this:

I have decided to buy one when it becomes available.
There is a creepy factor but being an embedded systems guy I just have to see and experience it first hand.

I will let it clean house and mow the yard :-)

One thing most don’t yet realize is that the robots will be accessible over Starlink both directly and through repeaters in metro areas.

This way they can be used as avatars where you control them remotely and can speak to people where the robot is located.. it will be like being there yourself in a limited way. People will be employed to operate them remotely i.e. a delivery UPS robot will be under the control of an operator and will request takeover when problems arise.. so the customer can converse with an actual person.

I predict the remote avatar abilities will become the main reason ordinary people get one since we are all so lazy nowadays... just stay home in your pajamas and act remotely with the avatar.

Probably planning ahead - from Fremont, the Optimus Army will have a shorter march to Sacramento. :)
