The National Security Council whistleblower who triggered the first impeachment against Donald Trump is running for Senate.
Alexander Vindman announced on Tuesday he is running in the president's home state of Florida as a Democrat seeking to oust Republican Senator Ashley Moody.
In his two-minute announcement video, the Ukraine-born candidate leans into his anti-Trump sentiment, claiming: 'This president unleashed a reign of terror and retribution, not just against me and my family, but against all of us.'
'Today, our country is in chaos.'
Vindman, a retired lieutenant colonel and an NSC aide during Trump's first term, testified to Congress in October and November 2019 regarding what he knew about the president's call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
He alleged that the president set a quid-pro-quo with Zelensky tying aide to war-torn Ukraine with their willingness to launch a damning investigation into Joe Biden, who was a presidential candidate at the time, and his son Hunter.
Once seen as a more left-leaning state, Florida has in the last decade leaned more and more right, and the Cook Political Report puts Moody's seat as 'solid Republican.'
The 2026 Senate race in Florida is a special election. Whoever wins will need to run again in 2028 for a full six-year term in the upper chamber of Congress.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appointed former Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody to the US Senate seat when Marco Rubio left it vacant last year to become Trump's secretary of State.

Does he even live in Florida? Why can Democrats run anywhere they want in the country without anybody saying a word about their primary residences?
Exactly. Florida was a Democrat leaning state like every other Southern state, but it was NOT "Left Leaning". This was back when Democrats were much more reasonable and Southern Democrats were downright Conservative. As the party drifted leftward, it started losing in the South to the point that today, the only Southern State that votes Democrats is Virginia and that's because of all the Carpetbaggers who moved into Occupied Northern Virginia.
Many Congressional Rats (probably professional politician GOP’ers too!) flout the residency requirements for their Congressional\Senate seats. Nothing is done about! Why? Because the respective houses govern their own behavior.

Another example of the poison the 17th Amendment continues to inject into our system! Would the state legislature pick him if Senators were still selected as the Founding Fathers intended? I doubt it!
Senators normally have a long history in their State, have held various offices, know all the party insiders, know State issues and desires, been everywhere, etc. Vindman gets a zero on all that; he is running on the Orange Man Bad platform.
Though this article and many others imply Vindman is already the Dem candidate, he is really just running for the nomination, in a primary scheduled for August 18, 2026. How he fares in the primary race will be revealing. I bet he’ll lose big to a Floridian.
