The National Rifle Association (NRA) has joined other gun lobbying and advocacy groups that are typically aligned with Donald Trump in calling for the Republican president’s administration to conduct a “full investigation” into the killing of Alex Pretti, the 37-year-old nurse who was shot dead by federal immigration officials in Minneapolis on Saturday.
Pretti was reportedly legally permitted to carry a gun and is a citizen of the US, where it is a constitutional right to bear arms. Widely circulated video of his shooting death does not depict him ever holding a gun. It does show an officer reaching to Pretti’s lower back and stepping away with what appeared to be a pistol – and Pretti being subsequently shot to death.
The NRA waded into the national dialogue over Pretti’s killing after Bill Essayli – who was appointed by Trump to temporarily serve as a US attorney in California in 2025 – posted on social media: “If you approach law enforcement with a gun, there is a high likelihood they will be legally justified in shooting you.”
In response, the NRA posted: “This sentiment … is dangerous and wrong. Responsible public voices should be awaiting a full investigation, not making generalizations and demonizing law-abiding citizens.”
Gun Owners of America, a non-profit lobbying organization, also criticized that claim from Essayli – who is now an acting first assistant US attorney for California’s central federal district court.
“Federal agents are not ‘highly likely’ to be ‘legally justified’ in ‘shooting’ concealed carry licensees who approach while lawfully carrying a firearm,” the group posted. It added that the US constitution’s second amendment “protects Americans’ right to bear arms while protesting – a right the federal government must not infringe upon.”

Does the NRA know what a gun is?
My chapter of GOAL is excellent, but in my leftist blue state, it is like spitting in the wind.
Not the limp wrists I’ve seen working there.
I take extreme exception to the NRA supporting this dead person.
He abdicated his responsibility as a concealed carrier by inserting himself into a heated situation intentionally while carrying a weapon.
The NRA should not be supporting that irresponsibility.
Does Gun Owners of America know what a gun is?
Do they know what a loaded gun and two extra magazines of ammunition are?
They think gun owners should fight with the police making an arrest?
I thought there is a law that any time a federal officer uses force there has to be a special kind of investigation?
Correct me, if I approach an officer with a gun loaded or not I am seen as a threat
I understand the administration’s stonewall.
If you give commies and inch they’ll take the full mile and more.
But
Somebody under enormous pressure and omnipresent danger pulled the trigger when he should not have. Nobody in the entire city has their back...isolated and doing their very best to enforce federal law in hostile territory.
All he likely heard was “gun!” and instinct kicked in.
It doesn’t hurt to tell the truth. Especially when its on video. Credibility is paramount if this righteous operation is to continue.
He probably would not be convicted of a crime given the circumstances. Sadly though, the media and the left (DID I just repeat myself?) will destroy his life and career over it.
I asked that on another thread-does anyone who conceal carries bring two magazines with them?
Because I sure don’t. I hope I never even have to use one.
Did they say they supported him?
“He abdicated his responsibility as a concealed carrier by inserting himself into a heated situation intentionally while carrying a weapon.”
Even before that he was actively interfering with ICE operations.
Of course this guy in Minnesota had the right to carry, but he had no right to obstruct a law enforcement operation.
NRA can absolutely go stand between the Federal authorities and the insurrectionists in lawless Minneapolis and see what the hubbub is all about.
I dare em
Double dog dare em
Triple dog dare em
I’d tell them to dress warm
They are supporting him by ignoring that fact in a very public way.
Carrying two extra magazines is actually not the problem.
Assaulting a police officer and then reaching for you gun is the problem
The two extra magazines are helpful to determine intent, after the fact.
“who approach while lawfully carrying a firearm,”
Wrong.
Who tried to interfere with a law enforcement operation while lawfully carrying a firearm and then resisted when ordered to withdraw.
Of course this guy in Minnesota had the right to carry, but he had no right to obstruct a law enforcement operation.
NRA is trying to soften its image by appeasing the mob.
Appeasing the mob in any form for any reason never works.
This will only damage its relationship with gun owners
