Green Bay Packers offensive tackle Rasheed Walker was arrested on Friday morning after trying to check a bag that contained a gun and ammunition at New York's LaGuardia Airport.
According to the New York Post, authorities took the 25-year-old Walker into custody after he told a Delta Airlines employee that his bag contained a locked box with a 9mm Glock pistol inside.

Walker has been charged with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm.

“It was in a locked box and he disclosed it to the people at the airport,” Aidala (Walker's Lawyer) told The Post. “He told a person from Delta he was traveling with a firearm. He mistakenly thought because he had a licensed firearm and it was in a locked box that he was able to travel with it. We are confident the case will be dismissed.”

If this was not the proper way to transport a gun when flying out of New York, he should have been instructed on the right way of doing it, and told to come back when everything was properly prepared in accordance with with the state regulations.
Jeez, it was unloaded and in a locked box? It certainly seemed like he was at least trying to follow their rules.
This is going nowhere.
No Fly List for Idiots Wasting Time.
1. 2nd amendment rights.
2. supremacy clause
3. confusing as hell Delta and FAA policies on flying witf firearms.
it sounds like he was trying to declare a firearm in a CHECKED bag, not trying in CARRY ON.
What dickheads.
How is this not a crime? Isn’t it Federal law that you cannot carry a weapon, along with ammunition, in carry-on luggage? I’ve flown with my guns, but only in checked baggage, declared, locked with non-TSA locks...
I don’t know about this particular case. But years ago I went to a talk given by an NRA lawyer. He said there were three cities in the US where cops will arrest you for a gun violation even when there is no violation. It’s just what they do.
Those three cities…
Baltimore, Washington DC, and New York City.
If it was checked baggage, then disregard my previous comments.
It is long overdue.
According to the article, it seems to have been in a checked bag.
Unfortunately it is a crime. NEVER travel by airline to or through NY with a checked firearm. Even though it is legal to transport the firearm this way according to federal law, you cannot have it under your control at any time in NY unless you have the appropriate NY permits. NY normally arrests travelers transiting NY when their continuing flight is canceled and the airline gives them their luggage to hold until they can get another flight to continue their trip. And by the way, in Mass they will arrest you for having an unloaded locked firearm in your vehicle if your are passing through MASS even if you can legally possess the firearm in your origin and destination locations. If you get a good judge the federal law on transporting firearms should be a defense but the hassle is not worth it. DON’T travel to or through states that do this garbage!
Port Authority cops being massive losers as usual.
Federal law allows this (ammo in same locked box sounds like the only violation and a technical one at that).
Harmeet Dhillon and the USDOJ Civil Rights division should get involved.
New Jersey is bad, too.
I don’t blame him. With all of the Antifa Fascist Pig Rioting going on, I’d risk carrying a gun to defend myself all the time. I’d rather put a hole in a commie Antifa rioter than have them put one in me.
The article says he was attempting to check the bag. That implies he was carrying the bag into the airport. This is a violation of the awful NY gun laws, not federal law.
It’s not Delta that is the problem, and it’s not the TSA.
It’s the New York Port Authority Police.
It’s perfectly legal for you to fly with a habdgun, provided that it’s unloaded, in a locked, hard-sided container, in checked luggage, and declared to the airline.
But the NYPA Police have routinely been arresting everyone who tries. They keep losing the court cases, but they still do it.
He was trying to follow Wisconsin and FAA regulations in a communist city. You can also be transporting a firearm legally, have your flight diverted to NYC and find yourself arrested too.
Spew York is NOT part of the United States.
Rasheed now knows that.
Transporting Firearms and Ammunition
When traveling, comply with the laws concerning possession of firearms as they vary by local, state and international governments.
Firearms must be unloaded and locked in a hard-sided container and transported as checked baggage only. As defined by 49 CFR 1540.5 a loaded firearm has a live round of ammunition, or any component thereof, in the chamber or cylinder or in a magazine inserted in the firearm. For civil enforcement purposes, TSA also considers a firearm to be loaded when both the firearm and ammunition are accessible to the passenger. For example, if an individual has a firearm in accessible baggage and ammunition in his/her pocket, or any combination where the individual has access to both, the firearm is considered "loaded" for purposes of assessing a civil penalty. Only the passenger should retain the key or combination to the lock unless TSA personnel request the key to open the firearm container to ensure compliance with TSA regulations. You may use any brand or type of lock to secure your firearm case, including TSA-recognized locks.
I think that the TSA regs have been simplified over the last decade or so.
I recall that the TSA would have to inspect the packing of the firearm before it was checked and put sealing tape around the case after the inspection.
It’s the Mamdami effect: “Leftist law for we corrupt, inept, and quite loathsome leftists, real laws for folks who try to comply with actual written laws.
