Ukraine close to humanitarian catastrophe without energy ceasefire
Ukrainska Pravda ^ | 1/23/2026 | Artur Kryzhnyi

Ukraine is on the brink of "a humanitarian catastrophe" after months of Russian airstrikes on the energy system, and any future peace agreement must include a halt to attacks on energy infrastructure, Maksym Tymchenko, CEO of DTEK, the largest private energy company in Ukraine, has said. Tymchenko said Russia, which launched its full-scale invasion nearly four years ago, has conducted a campaign of "energy terror" since October 2025, striking power plants and overloading air defence systems.

The authorities report that Kyiv and the surrounding regions have been hardest hit, and Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has urged residents to temporarily leave if possible.

Quote from Tymchenko: "We need an energy ceasefire. A ceasefire on the energy assets. How can you talk about peace and [keep] attacking people, and knowing that people are freezing? How can these things go in parallel?"

Details: Tymchenko noted that Ukraine has experienced two weeks of temperatures between -15 and -20 degrees Celsius, during which Russia has targeted its gas transportation, storage and production facilities. Russia claims it is striking military and energy infrastructure supposedly used by Ukrainian forces.

In other news, Ukraine invaded Kursk again. And got encircled again. Trump begging Putin to not kill them. Accusations of Ukrainian soldiers slaughtering civilians including children.

I recollect a great clamor here to target Russian oil refineries.

I also recollect great joy here in knowing Russian drivers sat in long lines waiting to be able to get gasoline.

Little Zeke listened to the rats and the EU a-holes so he didn’t end this a year ago. Ridiculous

The people of that country aren’t given any consideration at all.

This is actually, “they lost, and won’t admit it”.

Energy infrastructure has always been a legitimate target in war.

But there is movement to declare it illegal terrorism.

Surrendering would be the option to avoid a humanitarian crisis.

Anyone who predicted this in 2021 was called a “Putin puffer.”

Remember how London, NATO, and Davos propagandists told us their UK proxies were going to easily push out the Russians, Putin would be overthrown and Ukraine would gloriously join the EU and NATO?

There are many who profit from the Ukraine money laundering, no less here than anywheres else.

There is a dual use issue with energy, and things like putting military headquarters in civilian apartment buildings.

This thread is rooted on a story. Here is the original URL, not through MSN,'

Ukraine close to humanitarian catastrophe without energy ceasefire Ukrainska Pravda, 23 January 2026

It is interesting WHICH Free Republic thread one examines these days. Only yesterday:

"The future looks bright for Ukraine, after the war - lots of money lined up, and Ukraine pretty much already has the legal and regulatory structures in place for EU accession...."

Source: 1,072 posted on 1/23/2026, 3:18:39 PM

Synthesizing "catastrophe" and "future looks bright" seems to be getting more and more difficult these days.

Energy infrastructure has always been a legitimate target in war.

In this case, the Ukraine was the one to initiate strikes on Russian energy infrastructure, refineries and pipe lines.

The Russians had shown remarkable restraint and had only been hitting non critical energy choke points, not hard to replace infrastructure.

Both sides are doing this. Russia has been without power for days. Their fuel infrastructure has been decimate, railroads are bankrupt. The list goes on. It all going to come down to who can suffer the most.

MSN: “Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump have agreed on supplying Ukraine with missiles for Patriot systems, the Ukrainian head of state announced this at the Talented Youth Forum in Kyiv, according to Ukrinform.

“I spoke with President Trump and received — I will not say how many — PAC‑3 missiles for Patriot,” Zelenskyy said.”
