The city of Philadelphia sued the Department of the Interior and the acting director of the National Park Service on Thursday over reports that slavery exhibits were being dismantled in the city’s historic district.
The suit, filed in federal court, seeks a preliminary injunction to restore the exhibits at the President’s House Site, part of Independence National Historical Park.
The lawsuit says that “the National Park Service has removed artwork and informational displays at the President’s House site referencing slavery, presumably pursuant to the mandate” of Executive Order No. 14253, which President Donald Trump signed in March.
The city said in the suit that it learned Thursday that the educational panels that referred to slavery had been removed.
"Removing the exhibits is an effort to whitewash American history," Philadelphia City Council President Kenyatta Johnson said in a statement Thursday. "History cannot be erased simply because it is uncomfortable. Removing items from the President’s House merely changes the landscape, not the historical record."
NBC Philadelphia aired video Thursday that shows people with crowbars taking down panels, one of which reads “The Dirty Business of Slavery.”
The suit says the city was given no notice about the change to the President’s House.
It calls the removal of the displays “arbitrary and capricious.”
“Defendants have provided no explanation at all for their removal of the historical, educational displays at the President’s House site, let alone a reasoned one,” the lawsuit says.

Kenyetta has got better things to do, like making me a sammich.
Enough with the malicious compliance BS.
Why are Democrats so fixated on slavery?
And they accuse US of living in the past.
How is the National Park Service subordinate to the dictates of a city’s government employees wishes?
Easy fix, start a city museum and put the exhibits you want in it.
they just wanna keep the black vote ...
If it’s a National Park, does the city have any say whatsoever? Isn’t it Federal property?
If they can take down and destroy our statues, we can tear down and destroy their panels.
Add a jail exhibit to the National Park, and put city officials in it.
No claim of anything wrong.
The aggrieved just disagree with action.
How is that a lawsuit?
How could any Judge rule on anything about it?
“Why are Democrats so fixated on slavery?”
Progressives have controlled U.S. history for so long, most dont know the full story.
But for those of us who do know, as it pertains to conservatives - We as conservatives aren’t brave enough to point out that the British Empire forced slavery on the U.S.
So, being as we accept all of that responsibility - slavery is all the U.S.’s fault, they can guilt us with it. We invented it, we ran the ships, we built all the plantations, etc.
Guilt is a super powerful weapon in anyone’s arsenal.
If we want this to stop, we’ll need to point out the Empire’s role. If we want this to continue, let’s keep tucking our tails between our legs as we have always done.
The cowards will point to all sorts of useless childish stuff. Rome, Africa, etc etc. None of that has any relation to the colonies and what actually happened in the legal frameworks and the court rooms.
Wait, I thought slavery was a stain on our country?
They’d be cheering if this was Biden admin
Convenient for those who don’t know their history.
Blame the USA.
They pull this excrement with the Salem Witch histeria.
Didn’t take place in the USA, but, in a British Crown colony.
But year after year, they apologise and try to make us feel guily.
And all the Whos down in Whoville cried. BOOOO HOOOOoo
Libs can dish it out but they cant take it. ha ha
Philadelphia: “If I were in charge, I would do it differently.”
Judge: “Are you in charge?”
Philadelphia: “No.”
Judge: “Case dismissed.”
Simple: no standing and they can ALL go ESAD.
Exactly, and are they even aware of the slavery that still goes on in Africa and the Middle Easteast today?!
Did a judge order the exhibits be erected in the first place? No. The Feds just did it without asking whether they were appropriate or by seeking approval. They can be removed the same way.
The liberal media is biased? Nooooooo!
Melt them down.
Absolutely!
Pronto!
