Pierce County Sheriff Keith Swank is facing pressure from the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office after stating publicly that his office would not hire non-citizens for law enforcement roles.
A confidential legal memo obtained by The Jason Rantz Show on Seattle Red 770 AM shows prosecutors demanding that Swank reverse course and publicly declare that his department will consider non-citizens for employment if they meet state eligibility requirements.
The dispute stems from a January 20 post on Swank’s X account stating that the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office would not hire non-citizens.
The context of the post was around a bill allowing foreign nationals to serve as law enforcement. Swank argued that “non-citizens would be precluded from carrying firearms according to federal law, and the very same Democrats who want to confiscate citizens’ firearms would give more fire power to non-citizens.”
According to the memo from the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, that statement must be walked back immediately to avoid legal exposure for the county.

There’s no reason for him to walk back anything. There are certain positions of public trust that should absolutely require US citizenship, and law enforcement is one of them.

Washington State wants to be able to fire elected Sheriffs, been reading about some new legislation. Because reasons.
It isn’t widely known, but ordinarily the Sheriff is the most powerful elected official in every county in the US. They have enormous power, if they choose to use it.
The usual suspects don’t like this arrangement one bit. At least, not until they can infiltrate and flip them all to leftist apparatchiks and fellow travelers. One of the last remaining outposts so to speak, that haven’t been entirely subverted.

You would think so. But according to this link, an employer cannot discriminate based on citizenship status. This protection applies to refugees and to permanent residents, and under certain conditions.
