The United States will be able to buy sovereign base areas in Greenland that will become legal U.S. territory “forever” under the terms of a NATO-brokered deal at Davos, reports claim.
A “framework” for a future deal negotiated in meetings at the Davos summit in Switzerland this week will see the United States get a sovereign base area modelled on Britain’s military bases on the Island of Cyprus, it is stated. While those bases are not on the British mainland, the UK owns approximately three per cent of the island in two exclaves, which are legally and internationally recognised as an overseas British territory.

Threaten to take it all and end with just what he wanted.
The Greenlanders should be rejoicing, they will not be subjected to Soviet or Chy-neeze oppression. They can fish in peace.
Absolutely Postively Brilliant!
That’s why I never say he’s an idiot, unlike many freepers do at the first inkling there is going to be an issue. The man didn’t get to be a billionaire by chance. He sees the entire chessboard while us mere mortals have no clue what’s going on.
“They can fish in peace.”
Their main export is fish, to China.
This was Trump’s intent for Greenland all along. The stories of the US buying Greenland, making it a 51st state or taking it by military force etc. were all just leverage points. Denmark and the NATO countries got their knickers in a wad over nothing and the tariffs weren’t even a serious threat, but a wake up call for the European nations reminding them as to who holds all the cards, Trump played the EU like a violin.
Why not? If there’s one thing they’ve got, it’s empty land.
Set up or bolster those bases. Eradicate any Chinese presence. Mission accomplished.
Don’t waste time building another ‘Camp Century’... That was a complete disaster.
Way too many “reports” and too few quoted comments from both the Admin and EU.
Why buy the milk if the cow is free? Similar to what I predicted, though I used the Guantanamo Bay model; “a perpetual lease with complete jurisdiction and control”. Full sovereignty is even better, and Denmark, rather than US taxpayers, will continue to support the welfare state of Greenland.
Aren’t you all glad he’s negotiating on behalf of all of us.
Prediction: His next job will be as head of the UN. He’ll put some teeth in the organization and make it useful for once. Move back to NY too.
True, but about 85+ percent of it is either covered by ice cap or too mountainous and rugged to develop. Still a lot of empty land, but much of the "habitable" land is pretty inhospitable.
“Trump played the EU like a violin.”
And evoked complete hysteria…..especially from Macron in his blue sunglasses and Mette Frederiksen.
I’m sure Orban sat back and laughed his azz off.
Now that's a funny joke!
Similar to the old deal at Guantanamo.
I hope it happens, nobody else gets the same deal and we pay nothing to Greenlanders. I can dream but we will probably be the same smucks we have always been.
At least one of the bases named FAFO would be a nice place to house any of the enemies foreign or domestic with a problem with the climate of Gitmo.
Quite frankly, I was hoping we’d get the entire Greenland landmass. There is no good reason for Denmark to have any territorial possession in the Western Hemisphere and every reason for us to lay claim to all of Greenland. The perception will be that this is a climb-down from Trump’s previous stated position.
Until there is a deal worked out as a treaty and that treaty is approved by 2/3rds of the Senate, there is nothing here but interesting talk.
