A jury has acquitted former Uvalde, Texas, school police officer Adrian Gonzales for his response to the Robb Elementary shooting in May 2022.
After one hour of deliberations, the jury returned a not guilty verdict on all 29 counts of child endangerment.
Gonzales was among the first officers to respond to the mass shooting, in which 19 students and two teachers were killed. It took 77 minutes before law enforcement mounted a counterassault to end the rampage.

He was never more than a scapegoat.
I can see this verdict. Legally... he didn’t have to save the kids.
History will always see him as a coward.
He is a coward, but guilty of serious felonies? Shouldn’t have been charged. CA
I agree with you, and he’s not the only one I will view as a coward.
First group of comments on this thread are correct.
Seems like there was an officer that went in and retrieved his kid(s) then bailed.
Police aren’t actually under any obligation to help.
Agreed. He should not have charged.
But he’ll always be linked to Uvalde. As he should be.
Former Officer Gonzales made no attempt to save those children. That makes him a coward. It is a shame he should carry with him for the rest of his life. But it does not make him a criminal.
I must reluctantly agree with the verdict.
“History will always see him as a coward.”
Any action he took would have been certain suicide.
A bunch of other cops, once they arrived didn’t do anything either.
77 minutes.
I agree as well. He was just an easy target. There were so many more serious blunders, particularly from the command staff that day that I’d rather see dealt with. How he acted immediately, and done something, this is still a very good chance that they’re still would’ve been a catastrophic loss of life because the command staff had no idea what was going on, who was there, couldn’t communicate because they didn’t carry radios, etc. To make the sound tactical decisions that need to be made in a matter one to two minutes, not 10-60 minites.
He’s one of them. They can’t punish him for not doing his job.
“Police aren’t actually under any obligation to help.”

Police are under many obligations to “help,” both moral and legal. What you’re referring to is the lack of a “legal duty to protect.”
Consider if police were under a legally imposed duty to protect for a moment. How far could they go to “protect” someone? 24 hour coverage? Personal bodyguard? protective custody of anyone who could potentially be a threat?
The list is endless, and would further bloat the most dangerous branch of any government for most citizens.
The courts have ruled time, time, and time again that “The police have no duty to protect”!!!
Apparently our “justice” system believes the cops are only there to draw the chalk line...
Excellent news !
My, 28 charges , the prosecutors were working overtime on the frame up !
I agree with you.
Not true.
He made the initial approach to the building - it went to the wrong person.
He was also one of the first entries into the building.
and he obeyed the orders of his superiors.
They made the wrong decisions, but hindsight is 20/20
