Helps Denmark save face. Now when they sell it to us no one can say they did it out of fear. They just saw a good deal, that’s all.

Denmark is largely beholden to the United States in many ways, but their biggest contribution was the asylum of Niels Bohr in the US during the Second World War. He was President of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences, of the Danish Cancer Committee, and Chairman of the Danish Atomic Energy Commission, among his contributions in life. Dr. Bohr was spirited out of Denmark shortly after the occupation of Denmark by the Third Reich, as he was of Jewish descent, and would have ended up in a slave labor camp or even liquidated during the Holocaust.

His theoretical studies led to breakthrough discoveries in the development of quantum physics, and made the harnessing of atomic energy possible, first as a nuclear weapon, then later in the development of nuclear power generation. Dr. Bohr began his work on the Manhattan Project after fleeing to Sweden from Denmark because of German occupation. So in a way, there has been great interdependence with historic ties between Denmark and the United States.

Or.... it just gave the globalists that (apparently) control Denmark now the green light to continue their resistance to the US taking over Greenland. I think the threat of force, even if not intended, was probably a good thing. But opinions vary.

Trump has eliminated use of military force. He has not eliminated threat of economic force.

A reasonable argument for his wanting possession is that he wants to put in multi $billion installations for military protection. That could be accomplished by 99 year leases on areas of land, with steps to renew after 70 years. Thus nothing would be built without secure land leases. Most commercial property needs major rebuilds and renovation every 30 years. So we would not be stuck with expensive facilities but no legal land claim and timeframe.

Something similar could also be arranged for exploiting mineral wealth.
