The United States announced on Tuesday, January 20, that its forces seized another tanker in the Caribbean, the seventh ship apprehended since President Donald Trump announced a blockade to prevent sanctioned vessels going to or from Venezuela.

On first look, the Reserve cannot directly handle the typically high viscosity Venezuelan crude oil.
It should make pretty good asphalt and similar products, though, and we have some refineries that can also produce fuel from it — that should at least theoretically free up some medium crude, which the Reserve is equipped to handle.
Further, shale oil can be and is often blended with heavy Venezuelan crude to make a much more desirable medium blend.
If Venezuela will behave itself, that also makes much more practical the development of Guyanan fields of lighter weight oil.
