Bernie Sanders served on the US Holocaust Memorial Museum’s board for 18 years but hasn’t attended a single meeting. They only have two meetings per year and he missed all 36 of them. It was a bipartisan effort to remove him.

Having celebrity board members just for public relations is a very common practice. And not an inherently dishonest one.

Hey, he is probably spending so much time trying to make America Communist Again (MACA) to attend silly meetings like that.
I honestly don’t understand how someone could to this. I have been involved with charitable boards for a while. Every couple of years, I assess whether I am able to devote sufficient time to the ones I am on and resign from certain ones if I don’t feel that I can put effort into it. I have friends on boards who do the same thing. They come to the meeting and resign, saying that they are spread too thin and don’t want to be on the board just to add another board membership to their CV if they can’t devote time to it. Its a personal embarrassment to be on a board and not show up, not donate and not participate. And to do it for 18 years? How can he not be embarrassed? How could he not do a little self-reflection and say “I should resign and give the slot to someone who wants to make a difference.”
