The treasury secretary's comments come a day after President Donald Trump unveiled new tariffs against eight European nations who oppose Washington’s efforts to acquire Greenland.
The Trump administration is intensifying its push to acquire Greenland, citing national security concerns as China and Russia expand their presence in the Arctic.
Speaking Sunday on NBC News' "Meet the Press," Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent argued that the U.S. must move to acquire Greenland — which is part of the Kingdom of Denmark — because Europe is too weak to protect it from potential threats.

"Let me tell you what will happen, and it might not be next year, it might not be in five years, but down the road this fight for the Arctic is real," Bessent said. "We would keep our NATO guarantees and if there were an attack on Greenland from Russia, from some other area, we would get dragged in. So better now, peace through strength, make it part of the United States, and there will not be a conflict because the United States right now, we are the hottest country in the world, we are the strongest country in the world. The Europeans project weakness. The U.S. projects strength."
Bessent’s comments came a day after President Donald Trump unveiled new tariffs against eight European nations — Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands and Finland. The tariffs, set to take effect Feb. 1, will start at 10% and rise to 25% on June 1. Trump linked the move directly to European opposition to Washington’s efforts to acquire Greenland.

So, Bessent thinks China without a deep water navy can take over Greenland. They cannot take Taiwan. Russia is too busy with Ukraine to do anything else. They cannot even help Iran ur keep their oil ships from being captured.

But his remarks are part of a concerted, albeit ham-fisted, attempt to gin up MAGA support to take Greenland.
Excuse me did they not have a serious level of control and profit in Venezuela?

The BIG PROBLEM with Denmark, or any other Western country for that matter, is that they will REQUIRE any military facilities of ours to be NET ZERO, and that assumes they even let us build anything, which they will delay to no end.
...and if they delay long enough, Greenland goes to China.
They seem to be doing a pretty good job of infiltrating Canada, so there's that.

I definitely agree with Bessent.
China is our main adversary. Those in the CCP are evil atheist killers who hate us and plan to usurp the world. There is no conscience whatsoever in these people.

Europe wants America to pay for its defense via NATO without the US deriving any of the benefits of ownership. They don’t give a crap about Greenland as much as their own prestige.

Trump is thinking long-term—2050. Greenland is going to be valuable in terms of natural resources. We may not need it now but we will definitely need it in a couple of decades from now.

I don't believe the issue is China or Russia. I believe it is the threat posed by a hostile, muslim majority Europe a couple of decades from now that is driving Trump to acquire Greenland while there may still be a few Europeans interested in saving at least part of western civilization.
