Trump suffers major losses in his war on offshore wind

The administration’s arguments that offshore wind farms present a national security risk failed to convince judges in three separate courts.

President Donald Trump’s long-running quest to demolish the U.S. offshore wind sector is facing some serious blowback in federal court.

Three different judges — including one appointed by Trump — last week allowed construction to resume on multi-billion-dollar offshore wind projects off the coasts of New England, New York and Virginia that the Interior Department was trying to idle.

After Congress shredded incentives for wind last year and the administration imposed new permitting roadblocks, the industry’s streak of victories this week represent a significant setback in Trump’s campaign to erase the Biden administration’s clean energy agenda and deepen the country’s reliance on fossil fuels.

Democrats and wind supporters hailed the clean sweep in this week’s legal cases, even if the ultimate fate of those massive offshore energy projects remains to be determined.

“Trump is getting his butt kicked again. The question is whether he learns from that,” said Democratic Rep. Scott Peters of California.

The legal decisions, Peters said, “reinforces what we’ve been saying: That this is illegal. It’s a bad signal to the markets.”

Trump has made no secret of his deep dislike of wind farms — particularly those built in coastal waters. “My goal is to not let any windmill be built,” Trump told a meeting of oil executives at the White House last week. “They’re losers.”

White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers reiterated on Friday Trump’s contention that wind power represents “the scam of the century.”

The Trump administration paused the construction of projects because its “priority is to put America First and protect the national security of the American people,” she said. “The Administration looks forward to ultimate victory on the issue,” Rogers added.

But California can stop oil refineries from being built in the state.

In the past 20 years, even with MASSIVE USA subsidies, several offshore wind companies have stopped or declined to continue with the East Coast offshore wind power. The usual main reason is that it does not make sense economically. In other words, even with huuuuge taxpayer $$$, they cannot make money.

Science is hard.
Almost impossible for “woke” “judges”.
Separate quotes around woke and judges is intentional.
Oh well, perhaps we can get some third grader to let these “experts” know that - er - silly windmills offshore aren’t exactly secure.
Or reliable.
Or productive.
Or efficient.
and on and on and on.

This is simply crap. Big Wind is going broke hand over fist. Orsted, one of the biggest manufacturers, is going broke. No one is financing this crap. Astounding how they can write such lies.

Its a Politico article, so of course its highly biased, skewed to “outrage,” and does not give background on any of these products

The New York Empire Wind project is funded by the Norwegian company Equinox, who is already into construction and has financing lined-up. One of its key components is a guaranteed $155/Mw/H price from NY’s Power Authority and several Federal tax credits.

The Dominion project in Virginia is somewhat similar in that it is about half-constructed, and also in that it relies on guarantees for higher utility rates to consumers.

Trump is right to call these “losers.” They all rely heavily on much higher rates to consumers, and crony-capitalist ties with woke politicians.

These are all judges that have been paid by the demoncrats.
They could care less about windmills.
It’s judicial warfare against a president the opposition does not like.
They don’t give a damn IF the majority of US citizens, who voted in this president, don’t agree with them.
That should be against the law!
We pay them, but demoncrat usurpers BRIBE THEM.
What a racket.
SCOTUS needs to stop this over reach or the Trump administration needs to tell them ALL to FO.

guaranteed $155/Mw/H price
______________

This rate is about triple of the average US wholesale rate!
Itself already inflated by all previous green projects!
Yet wind energy is not very reliable and needs backup.
Finally, the environmental damage done by this project is priceless!

BTW, on free market exchange, the wholesale electricity price fluctuates very much all the time.
When the green energy kicks in, the electricity wholesale price usually decreases, very often below zero!
Which means, you have to pay somebody to take this excess energy away from you!
Hard to evaluate the real value of green energy, one could argue, that the green energy overall is pretty much worthless! Just messes up the other power plants and distribution systems.

What happens when a hurricane or tornado takes one of these out? Already happened in the Plains.

National security sound like a pretty lame argument against this crap. I think they should be doing legislature that will ensure that these crazy ideas don’t cause the grid to collapse. or Make neighbors pay the freight for real power generation when they get blackouts. This stuff only works if there is real generation going on outside their little bubbles.

If companies and investment firms want to burn money on that crap, regulate them like hell that they are fully publicly disclosing their involvement and risk to potential individual investors and pension recipients. Don’t let them lie, hold back info or deceive their way into getting investors. The money should be going into nuke plant development, not garbage out on the ocean.

If you take energy out of the wind systematically, do you not change the wind? If you change the wind systematically, do you not change the climate? No one has ever given me a response to the most obvious question in this catastrophically moronic enterprise.

Trump was in the right here. Offshore wind farms will prove to be a major health hazard. Not to mention a huge drain on tax payers
