Researchers have retrieved samples of 1.4 billion-year-old air from ancient crystals and found something surprising about a supposedly “boring” time period.
The team studied the gases and fluids locked in halite crystals (rock salt) from Canada, shedding light on the composition of the atmosphere hundreds of millions of years before dinosaurs walked the Earth. It turns out the planet was sporting more oxygen than expected—at least, in that exact moment in time—as they explained in a study published last month in PNAS.
Direct samples of air “The carbon dioxide measurements Justin obtained have never been done before,” Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s (RPI) Morgan Schaller, co-author of the study, said of the lead author, RPI graduate student Justin Park, in a university statement. “We’ve never been able to peer back into this era of the Earth’s history with this degree of accuracy. These are actual samples of ancient air!”
Over a billion years ago, a lake in modern-day Ontario evaporated. During the evaporation, some of the resulting brine was captured within halite crystals along with air bubbles—precise records of our early atmosphere’s makeup. Extracting accurate readings from these fluid inclusions, which have both air and brine (salt water), is difficult, however—some gases, including oxygen and carbon dioxide, act differently based on whether they exist in water or air. As such, it’s been challenging to precisely measure the gases in their original state.
The team solved the problem using a method previously developed by Park, uncovering that around 1.4 billion years ago, during the Mesoproterozoic era (1.6 to 1.0 billion years ago), Earth’s atmosphere contained ten times more carbon dioxide than today....the Mesoproterozoic climate was more mild than researchers theorized.
The atmosphere also had 3.7% of today’s oxygen levels. ...

But I digress. The REAL problem was Dinosaurs driving gas guzzlers.
Wait it had MORE CO2 than today? But man wasn’t around yet to tax it and make it better.
Very interesting.
Was this the era when coal was forming?
They ate other dinosaurs and farted a lot.
CO2 was 10x higher but maintained a climate similar to the present?
You’re going down a blind alley. Climate scientists don’t have to make sense.
In fact, I don’t think they’re allowed to.
The sun was weaker, dontcha know. So the global warming kept the globe from cooling. Must I explain everything;-?
Climate Fanatics have the sads
Oxygen content has varied wildly throughout Earth’s geologic history. It is produced only as a byproduct of life and was originally a self-produced poison which led to many extinction events. Life thrived only when oxygen levels were low, and died off when it became too high. Eventually an oxygen-resistant variety of life emerged and all present day life is descended from that.
CO2 has also varied wildly, but the greatest danger to life on earth occurs when it is too low. Roughly a billion years ago the earth was a frozen ball of ice because it lacked the CO2 to trap enough heat to keep water from freezing. All life on earth almost ended then. During the age of the dinosaurs CO2 was 5 or 6 times higher than today, and plant life thrived. Jungles covered the earth, and animals (being parasites on the plants) thrived as well. So what is the greatest danger: too little CO2, or too much?
Th age referenced is much older than the coal material producing carboniferous era, 300-360 million years ago.
At the time they are discusing NO land plants existed, thus the CO2 was through the roof. Plants were not around to breath it.

During the Medieval Warm Period the Vikings started settling Greenland.
The “Medieval Warm Period around 1000 CE (which may not have been global) and the Little Ice Age which ended only in the middle to late nineteenth century.”
When the MWP ended Greenland was covered in ice and the seas were iced over so the Vikings couldn’t reach their colonies.
Some of their colonies have been exposed as the ice has melted
The global warming hoaxers (Mann and company) famously had to erase the Medieval Warm Period to produce the Hockey Stick
Well, back in the day, those dinosaurs had their own gas station chain.
The correct term is 1000 AD.
Only leftwing atheists use "CE" to ignore & mock Jesus Christ...2000 years of time reference.

Throw Maxine Waters into that mix as well. She's 87 and is running for reelection.
So the crew of Appollo 1 didn’t die in a fire. They died because there wasn’t enough CO2 and methane in their test craft to keep the oxygen from igniting.
When my brother was little, he used to fart in a jar, seal it up and stash it away. About two months later, he would bring it out and check to see if it’s still stank.
