The survey of 1000 Scots voters also signalled that support for Scottish independence would increase even further should Nigel Farage's Reform UK take power at Westminster.
It is the latest of a series of polling results compiled for The National by polling firm Find Out Now which will be published this week.
The poll found that 49.9% of Scots would support Yes if a vote on the constitution were held tomorrow, while 43.7% would vote No and 6.4% said they were undecided.
Excluding these “don’t knows” and rounding to the nearest whole number, Scots would back independence by 53% to 47%.
In a similar poll commissioned by The National this time last year, it found that Scots would back independence by 52% to 48%.
Amid the rise of support for Reform UK in political polling, The National also asked Scots how they would vote should Farage be the next UK Prime Minister.
The survey found that Scotland would overwhelmingly vote for independence by 48.5% to 31.3%, with 20.2% saying they did not know.
Excluding these undecided voters, the poll found Scots would vote for independence by 61% to 39% if Farage were running the UK Government – a lead of over 20 points.
It must be noted, however, that this particular result has not been weighted and so reflects raw numbers and not the likelihood to vote.
In the standard referendum question, the poll found that younger Scots are much more likely to vote for Scottish independence.

Good. England is much more conservative than Scotland. They might yet turn their country around if liberated from those commie picts
The UK will find a way to win in spite of everything. “Scots Nationalists” will help them out, since politics is all a sham anyway.
Didn’t they vote against independence just a few years ago?
Scotland is worse than even England - when you have a kid, a person working for the government is assigned to the kid in order to make sure that the parent raises the kid ‘correctly’, by their definition (no spanking, unless Muslim of course, and many other rules).
They’re psycho.

There are already entire areas of Edinburgh that are Muslim zones.
They already had a vote and lost... What are they going to do... Have a vote every year until they finally win?
Quebec had a vote for independence back in 1995... They haven’t had one since... Nor should they. A vote for independence should be held every century or so... Not every other year or so.
The UK needs Scotland like a bicycle or a fish or something.
Left wing nationalism is pretty wonderful.
So Scotland can then join the anti-human, neo-marxists in Davos and Brussels
