….that’s led several immigrant-owned businesses across the state to temporarily close their doors or reduce their hours because even staff members who are in the U.S. legally are worried about being profiled and detained by ICE.
…..
At least eight local restaurants in Rochester are closed or have been forced to reduce their hours this week…
That includes Corona's Tacos. It had to close temporarily after many staff members didn't show up for work. Owner Jesus Corona Ortiz says many of his workers are scared to leave their homes.
"People are talking a lot. They get afraid, especially the workers in the kitchen," Ortiz told MPR News.
…
Federal agents in unmarked cars drive by his store several times a day, often tailed by community observers honking car horns and blowing whistles. Sometimes, they get out to question or detain someone. Hernandez has seen some of them set off chemical irritants against community observers nearby.
…
Some small businesses in the neighborhood have temporarily closed, out of concern for their employees – or, after staff have been arrested by federal agents.
Hernandez said he's heard from lots of restaurant owners who are short-staffed and losing business, as immigrant workers and customers stay home.
…
We have a lot of mixed customers, like Mexico and Somali and white,” Azam said. “But right now, most of them, the white customers come. But not Somalis, no Mexicans, nothing."
Azam said many of his employees are afraid to come to work. So he and his co-owners are working 12- to 13-hour days.
….
"We have seen instances where they drag people out of their car simply because they say, ‘No, I'm not going to give you my ID,’” Daisane said. “The threat is real, so people decided to stay home."

We’ve been told that illegals take jobs no American wants.
Yet this article shows NO signs that businesses are putting “Help Wanted” signs in their windows, despite being short staffed.
It would appear that business PREFERS illegals as employees. I suspect that’s because the employer always has the upper hand.
In which case, that means pro-illegal alien supporters tacitly sanction harsh labor conditions and the framework where Americans take advantage of illegals.
The leftists are truly reprehensible.
Democrats never change. Illegal aliens make good slaves.
They can’t complain about low pay or working conditions because ... they’re illegal.
Is it the presence of federal law enforcement causing the downturn in business, or is it because the anarchists have been called in to disrupt and cause mayhem???
Slavery is a Democrat thing.
Problem #1. Minnesota Public Radio still exists. Propaganda disseminated day and night.
“Chaos after the murder of a young mother and wife trying to drive away from an ICE held area of the street causes townspeople to rise in anger.”
Paying under the table and pay no taxes and owners get to keep more
Roger that!
Oh no, what we will ever do without our cheap labor?
They did improve the system for themselves. It’s better than chattel slavery now.
They can even use them to defraud the FedGov and they will be very quiet about it and even defend it.
Deportation always hangs over their heads.
Why are those in the U.S. legally worried? All they need to do is be respectful and show identification.
More ICE please!
“...community observers.”

Community observers my a$$.
Are they illegal aliens? Do they have expired visas?
If not, stop whining.
If so, GTFO of my country!
Good point.
Remind me again what the fine is for hiring illegals.
