The headmaster of Chicago’s tony Latin School will resign less than two weeks after it was revealed that students were rehearsing Nazi marching themes for the second year in a row.
Dr. Thomas Hagerman revealed his plans to leave his job in a Jan. 14 email to the Latin School community which cited health issues as the reason for his exit.
“This decision comes after a great deal of thoughtful deliberation. I have been repeatedly reminded about the importance of attending more intentionally to my health and overall sustainability,” Hagerman wrote***
The surprise resignation comes two weeks after middle schoolers at the $47,000 per year private school were busted by a teacher as they planned to rehearse the German song “Erika,” which was used as a Nazi marching tune during WWII.
The same taboo tune was played by middle school students in November 2024, which was an insult to Jewish families who felt their kids’ well-being was threatened by Latin’s toxic environment.
*** Officials said the students involved were punished but did not detail the actions taken.
The song “Erika,” originally published in 1938, does not contain explicit references to Nazism, but was used by the Third Reich because of its rhythm.

In my Middle School, some very vocal Jews complained about Christmas displays because they were allegedly offensive to Jews. Crosses came down while menorahs and Stars of David stayed up.
I must admit, it’s quite a banger.

It’s not a “Nazi” song like The Horst Wessel Song.
Panzer Leid is rather catchy as well.
In every group there are always those that find it necessary to make life difficult for their kind.

From what I’ve read and seen, Erika, while not explicitly Nazi in its lyrics, was promoted by the Nazis and its writer joined the Nazi party in ‘33 and worked for the Nazi labor service.
I can understand why people might object to having Jr High kids sing it. What would they need to know about a soldier longing for a girl back home? And I can certainly understand why Jewish kids might not appreciate its charm.
As for Jews complaining about Christmas displays, that’s another thing entirely.
Music to invade Poland by.
“ Authoritarianism and subjugation seems to be the go-to tools for the perpetually aggrieved classes.”
Maybe, but kids shouldn’t be playing music clearly identified with Nazis.
That’s just foolish.
That crap wouldn’t have been tolerated for 5 seconds when WWII vets were running our country.
I can’t imagine all the Poles living in Chicago were thrilled, neither.
After listening to the song, I have an overwhelming desire to conquer the Sudetenland…with the lovely Erika by my side.
They should have stuck with I’m a Yankee-Doodle Dandy
Good one!
“This decision comes after a great deal of thoughtful deliberation...” hahahahaha!! This is better than the old “spend more time with my family” BS
Just don’t mention the war.
That was when South Park was still good. That episode was a classic.
When we did the yearly Christmas concert in elementary school (yes we called it Christmas back then) our class sung a Jewish song. “Hanakuh HOliday so bright” and some other one about a Dreidel. I didn’t know what “Jewish” was and no one cared. Hmmmmm. Thinking back on it. Maybe the teacher was Jewish. I doubt any classes sung Kwanzaa songs (Like Kamala use to do with her Tamil Indian family.....)
How many democrats have resigned in protest of half the state of West Virginia and dozens of federal buildings named afer Robert Byrd, Democrat, Exhalted Cyclops ranked KKK member?
How many have resigned in protest of the “from the river to the sea” and “Death to Jews” and “globalize the infitada” be members of their own party?
I see what you did there.
“Yes, you did! You invaded Poland!”
Yes, I used to watch it when it was irreverent and funny.
