A U-Haul truck drove into a crowd of demonstrators during an anti-Iranian regime rally in Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon, injuring at least three people as the city’s Iranian-American community gathered to support freedom protesters facing a deadly government crackdown overseas.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said two patients were evaluated at the scene, but both declined treatment and transport. Firefighter-paramedics also responded to reports of a third person injured in the general area, though officials have not released that individual’s condition.

Iranian-American communities across the United States have organized demonstrations supporting protesters in Iran who are facing violent suppression from security forces.

What Happened at the Los Angeles Protest

The Los Angeles protest was part of a broader wave of solidarity demonstrations held in American cities as Iranians inside the country continue mass protests against the regime. ABC News reported the Sunday afternoon incident, which drew hundreds of demonstrators to show support for the Iranian freedom movement.

No arrests have been announced in connection with the vehicle incident. The Los Angeles Police Department has not released information about whether the driver remained at the scene or if investigators are treating the incident as intentional or accidental.

Death Toll Mounts in Iran as Protests Spread Nationwide

The demonstration in Los Angeles occurred as the death toll from mass protests inside Iran has risen to over 500 people, said the U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency on Sunday.

The monitoring group said it has confirmed the deaths of 490 protesters and 48 members of security forces. At least 10,600 people have been arrested, said HRANA.

The problem is that American media outlets have been unable to verify those numbers. The Iranian government has not provided any death tolls during the ongoing protests, though their estimates run the same risk of being unverifiable, given the regime's control over the country.

HRANA said in its Saturday update that it had recorded 574 protest locations across 185 cities and all 31 provinces of the country. Saturday marked the fourteenth day of protests in the country.

Is there a video? It takes a special kind of stupid to step in front of a U-Haul truck.

Dang those self-driving assault trucks!

Ban them now.
