Iran has warned it will retaliate if attacked by the US, as protesters defied a deadly government crackdown on Saturday night.
Videos verified by the BBC and eyewitness accounts appeared to show the government ramping up its response to the protests, which have spread to more than 100 cities and towns across every province in Iran.
Medics at two hospitals have told the BBC that more than 100 bodies had been brought in over a two day period. The nationwide death toll is feared to be far higher.
The US has threatened to strike Iran over the killing of protesters. Iran's parliament speaker warned that if the US attacked, Israel along with US military and shipping centres in the region would become legitimate targets.
The protests were sparked in the capital, Tehran, by soaring inflation, and are now calling for an end to the clerical rule of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran's attorney general said anyone protesting would be considered an "enemy of God" - an offence that carries the death penalty - while Khamenei has dismissed demonstrators as a "bunch of vandals" seeking to "please" Trump.
US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that the US "stands ready to help" as Iran "is looking at FREEDOM".
Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian has blamed the US and Israel for the unrest.

A HUGE grain of salt. I think while most Iranians are against the current regime, it doesn’t necessarily mean they want the Shah back, neither.

Yesterday, I started out optimistic, until I started noticing that most of the online sites were touting the “return” of Pahlavi. That’s when I sensed we were being taken in. And unfortunately, it appears Trump got taken in, as well.
Maybe it will work out in the end, but I am not optimistic, and I fear Trump will end up with egg on his face, if he ends up doing nothing.

Well, we did get 26 years out of the last puppet we installed in Iran, so maybe something similar will appease those trying to install this one.

Even if they succeed, none of it will matter if they don’t ditch Islam. look at Turkey. Ataturk’s secularization lasted only a few decades and they backslid.
Just how does the cowardly, unholy, toothless Iran retaliate? The only way they’ve ever been able to retaliate has been to take innocent people hostage, and export terrorism and hatred - abated by liberals in this country who gave Iran billions of dollars (literally pallets of cash).

How soon the ragheads have forgotten how their nuke refining was wiped out, or maybe the Maduro snatch ‘n grab. If the masses decide to uprise the mullahs are toast and they know it.
Retaliate how? Are the Mullahs going to magically produce water? Are the Mullahs going to kill their citizens deader? Persians have a higher IQ than Arabs and will not fall to propaganda from the Mullahs and the DNC. Obama will not bail out the Mullahs.

Pahlavi is a unifying figure for the Persians. This will be a propaganda civil war and Pahlavi will be a figurehead that the Persians can unite behind and fight for to destroy the Mullahs. We gotta use what we have.

Maybe I am dating g myself. But when I was growing up Iranian refugees all called themselves Persian. I suspect it is still the same in Iran. I am happy to be proved wrong

This time though.... There is no Obama (Valery Jarret the Iranian c u next Tuesday) to bail out the Mullahs with billions of dollars. There is literally no water after decade of mismanagement. You can oppress people when there is food and water but once the water goes away there is nothing left for the oppressed to lose. I am optimistic
