Trump suggests Marco Rubio could soon get another job — president of Cuba
NY Post ^ | 01/11/2026 | Ryan King

Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who just keeps racking up job titles, could have another one soon, President Trump hinted.

The commander-in-chief mused that Rubio, who once held four big administration jobs simultaneously and has been floated for more, could become president of Cuba, where his parents fled in the 1950s during the brutal Batista regime.

“Sounds good to me,” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform Sunday in response to a random user who joked that Rubio could be Cuba’s leader after the government there falls.

Rubio has been meme fodder due to the plethora of tough jobs Trump has put on his plate.

At the moment, Rubio is serving as secretary of state, acting national security adviser and acting national archivist. He also briefly served as administrator of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) until last August.

Former National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan publicly said last year that it’s “ludicrous” to think Rubio could handle his duties as secretary of state and national security adviser at the same time.

Amid jokes of him landing another gig, the secretary of state, an avid sports fan, publicly ruled himself out last week as head coach and general manager of the Miami Dolphins.

“I do not normally respond to online rumors but feel the need to do so at this moment I will not be a candidate for the currently vacant HC and GM positions with the Miami Dolphins,” Rubio stressed on X.

“My focus must remain on global events and also the precious archives of the United States of America.”

He'll make a great President but I'm sure he will take VP under Vance in 2028.

He's a worker and will be a great assist to President Vance.

Perhaps, but, Rubio's resume looks a lot better than Vance's at the moment.

Let’s see: Rubio is now going to be de facto Governor General of Cuba ... along with Venezuela, Mexico, Canada, and Greenland?

Oh heck, let’s grab Gibraltar and Malta while we’re at it. Then we block all boats from the North African coast to Europe.

There’s a lot of oil under the North Sea. Can we just take Scotland — since Trump’s mother was from Scotland, and he probably would like to have a castle — or do we need to seize Norway as well?

If Trump takes Scotland, should he finish the job and occupy the rest of the UK? When he gets done expelling all the Muslims, just the way he’s going to expel all the illegal aliens from the U.S., he could move on to France.

That should keep him busy through the midterms. What will he do in his final two years?

And will he retire to Mar-a-Lago, Buckingham Palace, or Versailles? Of course, he already has Mar-a-Lago the way he wants it. Buckingham Palace and Versailles would have to be demolished and rebuilt with more bling.

U.S. special ops guys are going to be busy.

I think I liked Teddy Roosevelt’s approach a lot better.

If Musk picks up the pace, maybe Rubio can be Viceroy of Mars.

Stir the pot? Trump is starting to talk about foreign countries the way Lil’ Kim talks about South Korea, Japan and the U.S., or the way the Iranian mullahs talk about the Great Satan.

If you’re comparing his resume since joining the Trump Administration, that’s because Rubio and everyone else has had to speak with one Voice in this Administration.

They aren’t allowed to be a US Senator with their own big mouths and big ideas or go rogue in this Administration.

Rubio is 54..Vance is 41...

Considering age, credentials and composure...

Rubio is indeed the better choice. I think Vance will benefit from Rubio as his VP.

I think even President Trump is surprised at Rubio's adaptability.....and pleased...

While l do not entirely trust Rubio he would be much stronger than Vance for the general and nothing is more important than winning 28. It is obvious the R’s are not going to codify Trump’s EO’s. That said, l don’t think Rubio can beat Vance in the primaries

My friends do any of you know that I’ve posted this idea 3 or 4 times recently? It’s not so far fetched. Cuba is ripe for change and Venezuela is coming to a head. Don’t forget Argentina, El Salvador and the others. It’s the perfect storm and Marco has the charisma. He could put the country on the fast track to modernization. I’ll say 10 years. Make the country a temporary protectorate and then set it free. Marco will have his executives experience and be set up to be our POTUS.
