The fighting in July and December displaced hundreds of thousands of people in Thailand and Cambodia and killed about 100 soldiers and civilians.
The United States, which played a major role in ending border clashes last year between Thailand and Cambodia, will provide $45 million (€38 million) in aid packages to the two Southeast Asian countries to help ensure regional stability and prosperity, a senior US State Department official said on Friday.
US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Michael DeSombre made the announcement in an online media briefing in Bangkok where he was meeting with senior Thai officials to discuss the implementation of last October’s ceasefire, also known as the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord.
"The restoration of peace at the Thai-Cambodian border opens new opportunities for the United States to deepen our work with both countries to promote regional stability and advance our interests in a safer, stronger and more prosperous Indo-Pacific," DeSombre said.
On Saturday, he's scheduled to hold discussions with top officials from Cambodia in the country's capital, Phnom Penh.

as long as the $ isn’t stolen by UnitedNazis or SorozNazi NGO’s or Biden family trust or other crooks...
the $ should go for defense and for people who really need help, not for the usual ripoffs (including any USA “administrators” or political hacks!!!)
how can we know this isn’t just another ripoff like Hamas and PLO/Abbas/PA or Obadma’s $6BILLION in unmarked bills for the Iranian dicators?
The peacemaker
You cannot buy long standing agreement on a long standing issue between Thailand and Cambodia. They’ll take the money and resume hostilities when they chose. Everything in geopolitical matters cannot be reduced a financial “deal”.
I was an embassy brat and lived in Bangkok during grades 10 and 11. It was a great place to be.
I learned to speak Thai fairly well, especially cuss words.
We lived in a huge 3-storey solid teak house on Wireless Road.
I had a motorbike and got around easily; went to Pataya a few times. It was 100 klicks away.
I looked on Google Earth and saw that all of the klongs (canals) in my old neighborhood have been filled in. Too bad.
The mosquitos miss them, I’m sure.
Mr DeSombre said the US, which has slashed its global foreign assistance programmes under Mr Trump, would provide US$15 million for border stabilisation to help communities recover and to support people displaced by the recent conflict, and
US$10 million for demining and clearing of unexploded ordnance.
The US would also provide US$20 million for initiatives that will help Cambodia and Thailand combat scam operations and drug trafficking, and other programmes, he said.
The Trump administration has made combating the so-called scam centres based in South-east Asia a priority, as US citizens have been targeted by their financial fraud operations.
Nothing compared to the $9 billion the Minnie Soda Scamalians got.
There’s no point in giving Thailand money. The elites will just steal most of it, like they always do.
The Thai and Cambodian people share the tree lineage.
The Thai government, and the maybe still Communist Cambodia government, when I was over there, did not.
For those that are not too well informed, “The Killing Field” was Cambodia.
From U-Tapao RTNAF, home of the BUFF, it was a straight drive East for a little over an hour to the Cambodian town of Battembong.
I’m struck by the ammounts , in democrat hands the totals would be in the hundreds of millions or billions
This is complete crap. Neither country needs the money, neither country will use the money effectively (Thailand will do better than Cambodia) and the reason for the clash at the border has NOTHING to do with underdevelopment. It’s been going on for 65 years at least.
Your average top professional athlete makes $45 million a year these days.
