WA has third-highest gas prices in nation. Now state admits climate program data was off by 96x.

I’ve covered Washington government for years. I understand rounding errors. I get that numbers shift, estimates change, projections don’t always pan out. That’s bureaucracy. That’s life.

And then the Department of Commerce dropped a bombshell.

Washington drivers are paying billions more at the pump. For what, exactly?

The national average for gas is $2.82 a gallon. Idaho is $2.80. Oregon is $3.39. Washington? We’re at $3.82 statewide. In Seattle, it’s $4.12.

We have the third-highest gas prices in the entire country. Washington families have paid billions more at the pump since the Climate Commitment Act (CCA) took effect. Before the CCA, Seattle and Portland gas prices were basically the same. Now we’re paying more than 40 cents a gallon more than Oregon.

We were told this sacrifice would deliver meaningful emissions reductions. We were told the costs would be pennies.

And on Tuesday, the Department of Commerce quietly admitted they have no idea if any of it is working.

Washington admits Climate Commitment Act data was inflated by 96 times. The Department of Commerce released a statement Tuesday afternoon admitting they made a “data entry error” in reporting the emissions reductions from eight Climate Commitment Act projects. These are home electrification and appliance rebate programs for low-income communities.

Here’s what they originally reported: 7.5 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions reduced.

Here’s the actual number: 78,000 tons.

They were off by a factor of 96. Not a rounding error. Not a decimal point in the wrong place. They overstated the impact of these programs by nearly 100 times.

We’re paying among the highest gas prices in the nation, and one agency just acknowledged they inflated the results of its flagship projects by 96 times. That’s stunning.

Higher gas prices for soggy northwesterners are good for their souls. Doin’ it for the Cola Bears and the Penguins.

Actual errors should as likely benefit a cause as harm it. But when “errors” overwhelmingly help a certain cause, then they are not errors but rather intentional fraud.

It’s amazing how BRAZEN they are and, even given what we know about the media, they STILL let it slide.

Basically, what the Blue States tell their people is something to the effect: “Just let us implement our Carbon Trading Scheme and we’ll reduce carbon emissions by 25%. Oh yeah, as to the cost to you little people, very small, only about 5 cents per gallon.”

So, how many of you stop, or even slightly reduce driving when the price of gasoline goes up by 5 cents per gallon? And no one in the media bothers to ask them that question.

Bottom line, if they want a noticeable reduction of gasoline usage, try $5 per gallon tax, and if they want a 25% reduction, then closer to $10 to $15 per gallon tax.

Just like "it's not a lie if you really believe it", this FRAUD is not considered a sin on the part of the perps if good intentions are involved.

Their pension results should be clawed back by 96X. If the bad actors are still on the payroll, their compensation should be clawed back by 96X.

I remember during Y2K the leader of China wanted the experts to be on an airplane at midnight 2000. It's time for the do gooders to pay for their mistakes.

Yes. But that would entail the (R)N(C) having an ounce of testicular fortitude. No proof of that existing as of yet.

Don’t think for a minute this is confined to one state. Because Congress is so busy throwing mud at each other in endless hearings that end up doing NOTHING, they no longer provide Congressional Oversight on agencies. Prime example: The EPA. The EPA is writing regulations with no Congressional review, most of which are little more that Full Employment Acts for the EPA. A grad school colleague of mine started working for the EPA in the 1960’s with less than two dozen employees. About 4 months into the job, the director announced that no one should process any paperwork until told otherwise. About a week later, there was a “surprise” audit by the Gov’t Accounting Office, whereupon the director pointed to the IN boxes of workers claiming they couldn’t keep up with all the paper work. He claimed he needed more employees. The reason: It’s not workload. It’s twofold: 1) There’s no need to be efficient, 2) your status in DC is determined by the number of employees you control.

The EPA now has over 16,000+ employees. Do you really think the Biden IRS needed 87,000 more auditors? If so, I have a bridge for sale...

Washington admits Climate Commitment Act data was inflated by 96 times.

Did anyone actually think that Washington State's "Climate Commitment Act" was about helping the environment? Like all "Global Warming" laws, it was meant to funnel money to leftwing climate grifters. The fact that it was inflated by 96 times is a feature, not a bug. The more money that goes to liberal climate activists, the better in their view.
