In President Donald J. Trump's vision of American justice, there are two kinds of judges: "smart" ones who allow him and his administration to do whatever they want, and "radical activist" ones who uphold the law and thwart his illegal actions.
But Mr. Trump is going far beyond political rhetoric in the realm of immigration courts. He is openly trying to turn judges into rubber stamps for his anti-immigrant agenda.
Mr. Trump's manipulation of the system began earlier this year when he fired more than 100 permanent immigration judges who apparently were ruling too often in favor of people the government wanted to deport. It appears these jurists were basing their decisions on radical stuff like due process - a big obstacle for a president who is trying to kick millions of people out of the country, including people who entered illegally as well as asylum seekers and refugees who had been granted entry in the past.
Facing a backlog of 3.8 million asylum cases while trying to execute its mass-deportation plans, the administration needed to do more than just replace the judges it fired; it needed to hire a whole lot more to add to the roughly 600 who remained. So the Department of Justice, which runs immigration courts and whose top officials from Attorney General Pam Bondi on down are wholly subservient to the president, in late August instituted new rules that allow just about anyone with a law degree to be a temporary immigration judge.
Gone is the previous requirement that judges have some relevant experience in immigration law or service as an administrative law judge. The DOJ can now hire any attorney it wants for these positions, including those from the military or private sector.

I’m really surprised all the broads in the Dipstick Court System didn’t nominate their King, Jimmy “Jeb the Reb” Bonusburger to run the Maduro Court fiasco.
For a variety of reasons, illegals are worth more to them than we are.
This reporter is a perfect example of the trash colleges turnout these days
Albany needs several hundred bus loads of illegals sent their way.
Sounds like the human traffickers and child salesmen at the Albany Times Union Editorial Board are Big Mad at Trump raining on their evil parade.
“...uphold the law and thwart his illegal action”
No bias here.
Ah, modern journalists. They give amoebas something to look down upon.
Immigration “judges” are not actual judges. They’re bureaucrats. They serve at the pleasure of the president and he is free to fire them anytime he wants.
Rant and Seethe Lefties.
She probably had to have AI construct her sentences.
No Good WTO! As usual, these Leftist sniveling cowards are hiding behind the “Edirorial Board” facade, where they can take pot shots at everything Trump, or any conservative does. I Want their Names! And photographs! And , while we’re at it: Bios! What are their office hours. When can WE interview them - one on one, so they can stand up and defend their views like Men, and not the nattering dwevels they are.
The Times Union Editorial Board lives in some kind of weird leftwing bubble.
Just my opinion.
.
The US kangaroo court was in session under Biden, where the DOJ coordinated with state judges and prosecutors to come up with dangerously novel legal theories to bankrupt and jail Trump at all costs.
Kangaroo courts? Sounds like Trump has taken to deporting kangaroos.
“ It appears these jurists were basing their decisions on radical stuff like due process ”
No they were not. Due process in the Immigration court is a very simple question with a very simple answer: Did you enter this country legally or did you overstay your visa?
The answer is a rather simple yes or no. The solution is rather simple, too. If this is a first offense you are deported. If this is a repeat offense, you are a felon and will be jailed then deported.
EC
The judges ruling against Trump are losing at about a 90% clip once cases leave the district level. Indicates Trump is following the law and the district judges are lawless.
Deportation hearings are administrative and not judicial processes.
