An Oklahoma lawmaker has taken inspiration from an initiative in Massachusetts, to bring additional funding for education. Representative Andy Fugate has plans to introduce a millionaire tax, with the revenue going to low performing schools. ......... “An additional 2% in personal income taxes on your net income over $1 million, and an additional 2% on net income that goes over $5 million,” said Rep. Fugate. .......

The above displays the bullet points. But this guy (a Democrat, of course) continues:
..“When kids are not focused on education in the classroom, teachers spend their time providing social support. The first step is to meet that child where they are, and when that child needs basic services, or in some cases when they need parenting because they’re not getting parenting at home, that’s what teachers do, “said Rep. Fugate. “There is a need for perhaps an embedded social worker who can connect families that are desperate with some of the things that are available that they’re not aware of.”

Again, a liberal's plan which does nothing for education, but funds more social workers. No wonder OK is consistently #50 in public ed.

The fact that the left can actually talk about taxing the rich as if it’s legal, and moral, tells you all you need to know about where we are headed.

”revenue going to low performing schools”

When you reward failure, you get more failure.

Yup. That’s the ticket. Just follow the plan in place across the USA where spending more money on schools results in lower outcomes.

Exactly—if you reward high performing schools with more money and punish low performing schools with less money it is kinda obvious what will happen next....

Incentives work.

Here's a better idea - fire half the "administrators" and hire better teachers (teachers, not "educators").

No need to hire a social worker to get more welfare benefits for parents.

Just import more Somalis to OK and they will do it for just a percent of the grift.

So if I’m reading this correctly, the dem proposes to tax the successful to fund the unsuccessful.

Typical Leftist response: got a problem? Throw more money at it by taxing the rich. That's not the problem, you idiots. Try hiring teachers who want to educate our kids, not indoctrinate them. Parents would be aghast if they sat in the classroom for a day. Find teachers who want to teach.

In MA, the funds were needed to offset the additional costs of supporting thousands of illegals’ kids entering the school systems.

Any benefit from the “extra” tax revenues is moot.

Good luck with that OK.

In most cities across the US, about 3/4 of property tax revenues go into the school system. Of the two theories of taxation (ability to pay, benefits received), property taxes don’t fit either one. If you insist on this tax for schools, then implement Friedman’s Voucher Program. Everyone gets vouchers in line with their property taxes (e.g., 1 voucher for each $100 in property taxes). Figure out the cost to educate each child ($15,000 per student according to ChatGPT). So, if I pay $3000 in property taxes, I get 30 vouchers. If I have no kids, I can sell those vouchers on the open market to someone who doesn’t have enough for their kids. This would have the dual benefit of making parents aware of the cost of educating their kids plus easing the tax burden on those who have no kids and retirees who have already educated their kids.
