Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman held a press conference Monday to discuss the murder charges a woman faces in connection with a DUI crash that left a high school tennis prodigy dead earlier this year.
Jenia Resha Belt was hit with a murder charge last week after she allegedly struck 18-year-old Braun Levi around 12:45 a.m. on May 4.
Belt, 33, is alleged to have been speeding and driving under the influence when she struck the beloved Loyola High School senior while he crossing Sepulveda Boulevard at Ronda Drive. Despite life-saving measures, Levi, who was set to graduate weeks later and had been accepted to the University of Virginia, was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The fatal crash happened months after the three-year Loyola High School varsity tennis captain and his family moved to Manhattan Beach due to losing their home in the Palisades Fire.
Belt was initially arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence before officially being charged with several felonies, including murder and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, as well as a misdemeanor count of driving when privileges were suspended or revoked for driving with a specified blood alcohol level.
Her license had been suspended due to a prior DUI arrest.
District Attorney Hochman slammed Belt in a statement released shortly after Monday morning’s press conference, where he was joined by some of Braun Levi’s loved ones.
“This case represents an unimaginable loss — not only for Braun Levi’s family, but for his school, his teammates and an entire community that watched a remarkable young man build a bright future,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said. “My office has zero tolerance for reckless behavior that endangers lives. Driving under the influence is not a mistake; it is a profound disregard for human life. We extend our deepest condolences to the Levi family and everyone grieving this devastating loss.”
Belt, who is being held on $2 million bail, had her arraignment continued to Jan. 13.
If convicted as charged, she faces up to 15 years to life in prison.
Friggin’ malingering porker. They need to make her fat azz grow her own food in prison. Killing whitey should be a crime.
It looks like a mutant freak.
Tragic disregard for human life?
Democrats do that every day! It’s called abortion.
She will be sentenced to “time served” after a plea bargain give her a misdemeanor “reckless driving” charge or the local judge just throws out the whole case. Killing whitey is not a crime for certain demographics.
Surprised they held her on bail, given that her people are held in the highest rank in our society by liberals who celebrate when they kill whitey.
Her license had been suspended due to a prior DUI arrest.
Yup I’d call that murder.
Talk about being snakebit. First their home and now the son.
