Lawyers for former CIA Director John Brennan want the Justice Department to be prevented from steering an investigation of him and other former government officials to a “favored” judge in Florida who dismissed the classified documents case against President Donald Trump.
The request Monday is addressed to U.S. District Judge Cecilia Altonaga, the chief judge in the Southern District of Florida, where federal prosecutors are pursuing a criminal investigation related to the U.S. government assessment of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. Brennan and other former officials have received subpoenas, and Brennan's lawyers say he's been advised by prosecutors that he's a target of the investigation.
Brennan's lawyers say in their letter that they are concerned the Justice Department is engaged in “judge-shopping” and trying to arrange for the investigation to be transferred to U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, who issued favorable rulings to Trump during the classified documents case and dismissed it last year. They asked Altonaga to exercise her “supervisory authority” as chief judge to ensure the Justice Department is unable to steer the current Russia-related matter to her.

In March 2024, Donald Trump filed a defamation lawsuit against ABC News and George Stephanopoulos for an airing of This Week, arguing that Stephanopoulos harmed Trump’s reputation by claiming that Trump was found liable for raping the writer E. Jean Carroll in a New York case. Altonaga, presiding over the suit brought by Trump, denied a motion to dismiss by Stephanopoulos, finding that the technical definition used by the judge in the New York case did not examine the findings made by the jury.

Hmmm...I seem to remember when POTUS Trump once made reference to, "an Obama judge," Chief Justice Roberts couldn't scurry out of his hole fast enough to declare, "We do not have Obama judges or Trump judges, Bush judges or Clinton judges. What we have is an extraordinary group of dedicated judges doing their level best to do equal right to those appearing before them. That independent judiciary is something we should all be thankful for".
I'm sure Roberts will rebuke Brennan and his team for the mere insinuation that there is a "Trump judge." < /sarc>
Shouldn’t John Brennan be In a Federal Prison somewhere?
Is does not seem that every time Trump gets a crooked judge appointed on a case involving him, that Trump can get rid of that judge.
