“Due to national security concerns identified by @DeptofWar, @interior is PAUSING leases for 5 expensive, unreliable, heavily subsidized offshore wind farms,” DOI Secretary Doug Burgum posted on X. “ONE natural gas pipeline supplies as much energy as these 5 projects COMBINED.”
President Trump “is bringing common sense back to energy policy and putting security first,” Burgum added.
In a separate news release, the DOI stated that the pause was also connected with “national security risks” identified by the Department of War in “recently completed classified reports,” according to reporting by Fox News.
According to the news outlet:
The department highlighted unclassified reports from the U.S. government in the past that have “long found” that massive turbine blades in large-scale offshore wind projects can create radar interference called “clutter” that can obscure legitimate moving targets and generate false targets.
In 2024, a Department of Energy report found that while the radar threshold for false alarm detection can be increased to reduce some of that “clutter,” the radar can “miss actual targets” when that threshold is increased.
However, on Monday the New York Times called the pause “a major escalation of President Trump’s crusade against offshore wind power.”
According to the Times:
President Trump has repeatedly called offshore wind turbines ugly, costly and inefficient. The Interior Department’s decision could effectively prevent the continued construction or operation of the projects, jeopardizing billions of dollars that have already been invested.
The five projects affected are Vineyard Wind 1 off of Massachusetts,
Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind off Virginia, Sunrise Wind and Empire Wind off New York, and Revolution Wind off Rhode Island and Connecticut.

The Vineyard offshore farm is “currently under construction and partially operational,” the Times also reported, “with about half of the project’s 62 turbines sending power to the electric grid as of October.
Save the whales
It’s STUPID. End it all!
I’d like cancel mire than pause but we’ll take it.
They’re also bad for the environment. But don’t tell the Left that because they’ll suddenly become anti-environmentalists to stay anti-Trump.
Great news! Save marine life.
Man, when Hochul hears this news, her head’s gonna explode.
Hopefully, her head won’t be where she normally keeps it - up her butt. The damage could be fatal...
We could have got this result YEARS earlier by telling Joey Brib’em that they would interfere with him sniffing little girls...
Each turbine needs to be drilled THREE HUNDRED FEET into the bedrock. They last around 10 years and the companies don’t remove them when they stop working. Also, they need FUEL to work! They kill thousands of birds and will destroy the environment for sealife as well as being an eyesore forever.
There is so much they aren’t telling us about those wind farms. I attended a seminar that gave both sides of natural gas and the wind turbines.
I was wondering how windmills could be a national security risk. I guess now I know.
Her head will be between Mamdani’s legs. 2 for 1. LOL.
I wonder if the sound oscillations from these wind farms cause interference to the Navy’s long range sonar listening stations. There is indication that whales become disoriented from the noise coming from wind generator blades. They may be causing whales to get stuck on the beach and die.
Radar operators happy no scattered images things can be seen now.
Much happy
😂😂😂
Quite a few years before anyone publicly knew about this project, the USCG Academy ship simulators was tasked with generating this near exact wind farm in the ocean. I was the chief engineer and an operator/trainer of the facility 1991-2024.
It took a long time and a lot of effort with the both the graphics and the physics.
The purpose was to then place disabled tankers, cruise liners, VLCCs and pleasure craft in the tower field. Actual best of the best coxswains and ship drivers in the 1st and 3rd CG districts for various USCG cutters and patrol boats used the simulators to simulate and evaluate rescue operations.
Regardless what process was tried, everyone ended up in the water, vessels slammed into the towers, sank, major oil spills... every time... various WX conditions. Lost cutters as the prize crews tried their best.
We surmised the wind farm project was not going to advance with these results being fed back to DC up the chain.
We all wanted to throw up when we much later read the project was approved and construction was to start.
