A newly engaged elementary school teacher who confessed to “making out” with an 11-year-old boy in her classroom broke down in tears as she was sentenced to six years in prison, just half of what prosecutors had wanted.
Madison Bergmann, now 26, was a fifth-grade teacher at River Crest Elementary School in Hudson, Wis., until a student’s father discovered 35,000 text messages she’d shared with his son over just three months last year — in which she gushed about how much she loved them touching and “making out.”
Cops searched her classroom and found a folder with the victim’s name on it containing handwritten love notes discussing how much they kissed.
Bergmann — who had been just months from getting married — pleaded guilty last year to one count of child enticement and two counts of sexual misconduct by school staff.
She started crying as soon as she entered court for sentencing on Friday, where prosecutors were pushing for 12 years in prison, according to KARE.
The now-ex-teacher pushed to get just a one-year sentence despite fully owning up to her perverted behavior, which court docs show involved multiple encounters inside her classroom during lunch or after school.
“I want to make it absolutely clear that I take full accountability for every boundary that was crossed,” she sobbed to the judge. “I hope that your family has been able to begin to heal and find some peace in your lives again. I know the journey will be long for your family.”
She then crumbled in tears, holding her face in her handcuffed hands as she was sentenced to six years in prison.
The boy’s dad told the court how “disturbing” the texts he found were.

If it had been a male teacher “making out” with an 11 year-old girl, would he only get a 6-year sentence?

Nah, mug shots are always awful. She’s nice looking. Some make up and she’d be very pretty. The gals in prison are going to welcome her.

Her 11-year-old boyfriend still won't be legal to have around when she gets out. Who will give her a ride home?
Over the last 40-60 years, something has happened among the female population such that inappropriate sexual behaviors with minors in their charge has massively mushroomed compared to earlier generations. It’s as if the Feminist aspect of the sexual revolution “released” things no one believed would be an aspect of that “revolution”, yet clearly seem to be.

Her fiancée dodged a bullet. Had she not been discovered she would have had several affairs over the course of their marriage. And then she would have divorced him, gotten the kids and the house and child support payments (probably not his).
I don’t disagree 6 years is appropriate.
What bothers me is the lack of uniformity in our legal system. Someone murders another person and gets 4 years, a person rapes another and get 20 years. What’s up with that?
Imagine the heartbreak he has to feel knowing that was going on behind his back. The last line of the article says he broke it off.
I feel very sorry for her and what her horrible lapse of judgement caused. She lost her fiancee, her career, six years of her life, another six on probation, a registered sex offender forever, the poor boy and family’s trauma. How do you put your life together after all that? She destroyed her whole life.
The funny thing is it seems to have been just sexting, kissing and touching. There’s no mention of a rape charge. I’m not condoning her behavior, but six years seems rather harsh without rape. And the prosector wanted TWELVE years!
11 is just too young

Among other things, was she obsessed with that boy?
