The Trump administration’s aggressive deportation policies have heightened stress among the country’s approximately 14 million immigrants who are living in the U.S. without legal authorization.
The sharp rise in dramatic arrests and deportations of immigrants over the past year has received widespread media attention.
A less publicized issue is that many young, undocumented immigrants are also finding it harder to apply to and stay in college.
As someone who researches teacher training and was a high school teacher in South Carolina, I have researched how restrictive education policies make it harder for immigrant students, particularly undocumented students, to receive a college degree.

Why aren't they being tossed on to an airplane?
Do their homelands not offer degree programs?
I voted for this
I had to pay for my four kids to go. Why must I pay for someone else’s kid?
Too bad, go home and get a legal education.
They don’t have to compete.
That would be unfair for the poor non-citizens.
They all get in through quotas and govt. money.
Wah.
In some states, they get in-state tuition. American citizens who want to attend colleges out of state don’t get such benefits. Their parents pay taxes to support many of these schools, but their own kids don’t have the same opportunities as an illegal alien. When is this going to end?
And a foreigner's kid as well - an illegal one.
Difficult for people in the country illegally *to attend college*???
The fact that could be a news story is extraordinary.
How much college education does it take to clean hotel rooms and pick lettuce and wipe demonicRATS’ azzes?
That’s what I voted for.
Well, that’s a mild version of what I voted for.
Back home, they (or their parents) would have to pay for college themselves.
Exactly.
At minimum they should be paying out of state, nonresident tuition.
As they really cannot be legal residents!
Getting in state tuition, while US citizens out of state pay lot more is abomination.
Why don’t they go home? How can they even apply? How can this even be a question that can be asked? Get out!
If I was in Italy illegally, what would happen to me if I applied to go to college there? Arrest, deportation? Of course.
Send in the septic tank truck and get rid of these vile pieces of excrement...
Go back to the s_hole you originate in, and sign up for college there...
“ A less publicized issue is that many young, undocumented immigrants are also finding it harder to apply to and stay in college.”
I’m not seeing the problem.

I voted for this.
