A law enforcement source says the person of interest was detained at a hotel in Coventry, Rhode Island. A CNN crew saw a large police presence gather at the hotel before officers moved in on a room, banging on the door and calling for the person to come out. Coventry is a town outside Providence, where the university is located.

The term is suspect. If you think someone is involved, they are a suspect. Person of interest has zero legal meaning. It’s a weasel term. If you think someone is involved and you arrest them, they are nothing but a suspect, and becoming the accused when charging documents are filed.
Person of interest…. Individual about whom were are curious… etc. Politically correct silliness.

I wondered about that terminology. In recent years, so many news reports say that there is a person of interest in some crime. They don’t use the term suspect ,they use the term person of interest.
They figured there might have been some technical legal reason that they do that. But I didn’t know what that reasoning would be.
“ Person of interest” is a generic term for someone the cops want to talk to. He might be a suspect or he might just be a witness or person with information.

I believe the federal terms are target, subject and witness. This person would be a subject.
I'm guessing some trams who hates Christian and traditional Americas.
The press will be looking for an excuse - that the person only represents themself and that the person is mentally ill. Time will tell - but there's a pattern with killers and how the press treats them based on political grouping.
