SNAP food benefit work rules now apply statewide, about 37,000 people immediately impacted

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — The Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) says work requirements for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits are now being enforced in every county in Oregon.

The policy changes at the USDA follow the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill (H.R.1). ODHS said about 37,000 Oregonians are immediately affected.

The statewide rules took effect on Dec. 1, 2025, expanding the work requirements from six counties.

The shift affects adults classified as able-bodied adults without dependents (ABAWDs). These are people aged 18 to 64 who do not live with children under 14.

Those individuals must now meet federal work requirements to continue receiving SNAP benefits beyond a three-month time limit within three years.

80 hours a month of ‘training’. Get real. These people are not training. It’s like college footballers majoring in eligibility.

More local food banks staffed with those ‘training’ volunteers would do. Every one of those single 18-64 year olds leaves with a very small packet of rice and beans-too small to resell. Long lines are good for those who expect help from others.

It's going to be bucket ‘o’ popcorn time when the ghettopotami have to find a job. I'm sure they will get “disability”, another major scam operation.

SNAP eligible foods should be the same as Florida WIC eligible foods plus chicken & pork. Fruit juice should not be allowed in either program because it contains fructose as does high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS).

SNAP benefits might be capped at $90/month/person in the lower 48, and 30% more in Hawaii and Alaska.

SNAP cards might be made only work between 5am and 8:45am and only for up to 1/8th the monthly benefit per day of use.

“Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.”

Benjamin Franklin

Get recipients’ waking hours synchronized with most employers’ working hours.

Limiting the shopping time and the total daily benefit usage amount is really simple to do.

“Those individuals must now meet federal work requirements to continue receiving SNAP benefits beyond a three-month time limit within three years.”

Why should these healthy mostly young people sit at home watching porn all day while tax payers pay for their food and lodgings?
Away with that nonsense! Go out and work already, even if its cleaning streets or dish washing.

They are allergic to work.

Bob Denver as the beatnik Maynard G. Krebs always shouted “work!” in shock at the prospect of it. Dobie Gillis series.

Yeah, they’ll have to remember which phony injury to get sympathy for having.

“Your disability form says you right leg, why are you favoring your left leg?”
“Uh, uh, I believe the miseries are spreading.”

“We need to ask a few questions of your bed ridden boyfriend.”
“Oh, he went up the ladder and he’s clearing out leaves on the roof. I’ll yell for him.”
