An outraged San Diego couple say their Tesla's cameras caught a crooked parking cop ticketing their legally parked vehicle on camera.
Vanessa Pearce shared video footage of her trip to the East Village of the California city on the afternoon of December 6, where a parking enforcement officer allegedly issued her a fraudulent citation.
The now viral interaction with the unidentified cop has garnered more than 800,000 views and was captioned, 'When your own city tries to scam you! Do better, San Diego!'
Before the couple was written the $85 parking citation, they were parked near the Izola Bakery on Island Avenue to pick up some baked goods around 12.30pm.
The couple said they paid for 30 minutes of parking, and when Vanessa returned 20 minutes later to add more time to the meter, she found a ticket on her Tesla.
'I was extremely upset. I thought it was a mistake and maybe a glitch in the system,' said Pearce to Fox 5.
The pair confronted the cop, informing him he was mistaken, but he wouldn't listen at first.
The officer told them that they had been parked there since 8am. But when the Pearces told him that their car's cameras could prove their version of events, he offered to dismiss the citation, according to the video.
Pearce's Tesla was in Sentry Mode when it captured the entire sequence, showing the officer marking the car's tire with chalk at 12.55pm, then pulling over immediately afterward to write up the citation.
The cop could even have been seen only two minutes later, taking photos of the chalk he had just marked as an apparent way of timestamping a car to see whether it was still there during a subsequent sweep for illegally parked vehicles.

Traffic and parking tickets are 90% a money grab.
The government that loves to video record us hates to have us video record its agents.
Was this a woke attack on Elon Musk by the parking cop?
It is a double edged sword that is coming back to bite some of them. Red light cameras and speed cameras are BS also.
Fire and criminally charge for official oppression.
It is deprivation of rights under color of law. The officer and all in the chain of command grifting off the theft scam need to be arrested and tried for what is likely millions of dollars in theft.
I was in downtown Detroit several years ago (actually quite nice downtown and beautiful architecture if you’re in to that sort of thing).
It looked like a ghost town and nearly every parking meter was out of service but it didn’t stop the parking cops from putting a ticket on every car in site.
Yep, just more government theft normalized.
Agree, should be fired.
I’ve had this happen a couple of times. They were lucky. Good luck getting it taken care of. Lazy cops.
Now think large. The European Commission's "fine" leveled against Musk is quite the same though enormous. Governments are the problem.
Smaller government, less expensive government, less invasive government is the proper answer, alongside firing each and every corrupt government official from a "meter maid" to an EC "president." And damn near every US Democrat, at the minimum.
Many moons ago, before Colon Krapernik took a knee, we enjoyed the pregame football tailgate festivities. For this one stadium, there were the huuuuge, paved, cement parking areas, and the outside parking areas of just dirt. For the dirt parking, there was just a few parking guys with those large red rolls of small tickets, like the ones used in raffles. The parking guys wore regular clothes, with a bright red over-the-neck apron.
Well...... One day, a young entrepreneur made some extra cash. He arrived well before the official parking people, with a bright red apron and the same type of tickets. At $10 a pop, he must have collected a few hundred dollars. He left before the official staff appeared. The official staff wanted all of the already-parked cars to pay. Most of them said No Way José and showed them their tickets.
I guess we could rules of the road like third world countries’
None.
If your a decent driver you can drive thousands a miles across USA and not have problems.
I am proud to say that our dumpy little one stop light town has all free parking. However, I just got done running down to the ATM, and on my way, saw a cop driving down the street talking on his cell phone. Grrr. If I would have done that, Barney Fife would have written me a big ticket. Grrr.
The cop needs to do time. He committed fraud the moment he signed the ticket. Offer him a reduced sentence if he can prove his boss told him to do it. Then go after the boss.
