White House slams Newsom after gov claims Trump admin turned down LA wildfire aid meeting: ‘No idea what he’s talking about’

The White House tore into Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday after he claimed the Trump administration refused to meet with him Friday during a visit to Washington aimed at securing more wildfire recovery aid.

More than $7 billion in federal funds have been issued to California since January, when the Palisades and Eaton fires torched thousands of acres of land and high-priced homes, but the Golden State governor wants a lot more.

Newsom formally requested an additional $34 billion from Congress earlier this week – down from his initial $40 billion ask in February – and met with lawmakers on Capitol Hill to push for the additional funds.

Officials with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), however, rebuffed Newsom’s meeting request, according to the governor’s office.

“Today, I had productive meetings with leaders on both sides of the aisle who agreed that recovery funding is vital, while federal officials from the Trump administration turned their backs on survivors by refusing to even meet with us,” Newsom said in a statement.

“President Trump’s promise to ‘take care’ of survivors was clearly a lie,” the governor charged. “He isn’t here for the people of Los Angeles, just like he isn’t here for everyday Americans.

“That’s not just disrespectful, it’s a disgrace – and it’s time for him to wake up and do his job.”

Newsom’s office described the request to meet with FEMA Acting Administrator Karen Evans as “routine,” and the alleged rejection as unprecedented.

DHS informed Newsom’s team that Evans was “not able to accommodate a meeting” and offered no alternatives with other Trump administration officials, according to the governor’s office.

I just don’t see Newsom being the nominee, he’s too much of an “Old Democrat”. Democrats want a “Mamdani-type”.

NewSCUM sets the Palisades on fire so he could “Reimagine” it with low income housing, has a “FireAid” fund raiser on TV, raises over 100 million dollars, NOT ONE PENNY HAS GONE TO ANY FIRE VICTIM but it all went into the coffers of Dem NGO’s and of course into NewSCUM’s pocket, maybe he should find the damn money and ya know, actually GIVE it to fire victims..seriously let me debate this a hole he wouldnt last 5 seconds with me asking questions. The ONLY reason why he’s been able to be so damn slick all this time is because the people interviewing him have absolutely NO clue about what he’s done here

I can’t stand it when some dumb ass uses “ask” as a noun.

Newsom thinks he wants to get in the mud pen with Trump but has no idea what’s going to happen to him. :-)

The use of ask as a noun in this way has been around for a bit. Doesn’t make it any less annoying.

Found a short read on the topic: https://grammarphobia.com/blog/2014/03/a-big-ask.html

As an aside, one day long ago my hyperlinks stopped working: page not found on this server. I must be missing something — what is it?

Adapted from a post on a different Newsom-related thread...

I don't claim to be an expert, so this is conjecture, however Mister Newsom appears to display symptoms of a methamphetamine user.

Skinney, hyper animated, prone to goofy and grandiose babbling, and unimpressed by practicality and reality. Rapid pace of speech along with a proclivity to interrupt.

Truth and fiction appear to be interchangeable to Mister Newsom, and I suspect that he believes some of his fictional (hallucinatory?) assertions.

Am I wrong in my observation and suspicion?

Maybe. If so, I take corrections from qualified persons very well.

What we need are for some experts to opine on my suspicions, and wouldn't it be useful to us voters if politicians and their staffs routinely took drug screens and polygraphs?

You are precisely correct, in your post #4. Newsome has never really experienced life fire, so to speak. He’ll get torn apart by Vance.

I would not trust Gavin Newsome or anybody else in California government with cash. Send the bills to the US Treasury and let that agency pay directly to the vendor, with appropriate controls over disbursements.

California likes to brag about how much it sends to the treasury. They would be so flat if not for two things — tech and military contracts.

As obama and Liz Warren would say about tech — “You didn’t build that.” There would be no tech industry if not for taxpayer support. We funded university grants, NASA, etc. And take the military contracts out of CA, and so many other things that we developed, they wouldn’t be bragging so much about what they bring to the table.

Screw Newscum, There are commercials on TV advertising California Covered Health Insurance and they clearly state that 4 out of 5 applicants receive subsidized premiums. YES 80% are being subsidized by those that WORK.

California has been neglecting its timberland for decades to use federal wildfire funds to help manage their budget.

Should not send any more money to Ca. without appointing a court appointed Master to oversee and control the disbursement of those funds.
