Fentanyl Dealer Sentenced to 15 Years to Life in Riverside Murder

A Winchester man has been sentenced to 15 years to life in state prison for supplying the fentanyl that caused the fatal overdose of 30-year-old Calin Sender, marking one of the few fentanyl-related murder convictions in California, according to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors said Quinn Aaron McKellips, 38, provided the lethal dose of fentanyl that killed Sender in January 2020. Evidence presented during trial showed McKellips had been selling multiple types of narcotics to Sender for several months before his death.

Riverside County District Attorney Mike Hestrin said the sentence reflects the seriousness of the crime and its impact. “The sale of fentanyl and the actions that lead to the death of another person have devastating, far-reaching impacts,” Hestrin said in a statement released by the District Attorney’s Office. “These crimes shatter families and communities, and we will continue to hold those responsible with full accountability here in Riverside County.”

The court denied probation, citing McKellips’ previous narcotics-sales convictions and concluding he would pose a danger to the public if released. He must serve 15 years before becoming eligible for parole and was ordered to pay restitution, with the final amount to be determined by the probation department.

Several members of Sender’s family delivered victim impact statements during the sentencing hearing, including his cousin, Jessica Chapple. “Calin didn’t die by accident,” Chapple said. “He died because someone decided that money was worth more than a human life.”

The District Attorney’s Office noted that while other defendants in similar cases have entered guilty pleas before trial, McKellips’ conviction is only the second fentanyl-related murder case in Riverside County to be decided by a jury. Fewer than 10 such jury-trial convictions have been recorded statewide, making the outcome significant given the high burden of proof required.

I prefer the old Turkish drug laws.

If they caught you with dope, they just yanked you out of your car and shot you along the roadside and then kept your car.

Short and simple, no repeat offenders.

Drug dealer George Floyd was selling fentanyl and when he was arrested he swallowed the drug and killed himself.

So put Americans in jail for selling the drugs but don’t blow up the drugs boats cuz they’re just “lowly fisherman trying to make a living”? Sounds like very Democrat logic....

Bad precedent...not the dealers fault someone is buying it. It’s the buyers fault. No different then sueing or holding gun manufacturers accountable for their guns killing someone. It’s not the gun it’s the killer. Or holding the bar tender responsible for the drunk in a DUI crash.

Yes the dealer is a POS but he didn’t make anyone take the drug. You going to hold the DR or pharmacist accountable when someone ODs or commits suicide.
