NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Trump administration officials overseeing the immigration crackdown launched this week in New Orleans are aiming to make 5,000 arrests, a target that some city leaders who oppose the operation say is unrealistic and would require detainining more than just violent offenders.
It’s an ambitious goal that would surpass the number of arrests during a two-month enforcement blitz this fall around Chicago, a region with a much bigger immigrant population than New Orleans. Records tracking the first weeks of the Chicago operation also showed most arrestees didn’t have a violent criminal record.
Alejandra Vasquez, who runs a social media page in New Orleans that reports the whereabouts of federal agents, said she has received a flood of messages, photos and video since the operations began.
“My heart is so broken,” Vasquez said. “They came here to take criminals and they are taking our working people. They are not here doing what they are supposed to do. They are taking families.”
Several hundred agents from Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement are participating in the two-month operation dubbed “Catahoula Crunch.”

A friend’s son is a career Border Patrol officer. While visiting his folks on Thanksgiving Day he was called away from the dinner by a phone call with orders to go to New Orleans. He was pleased to do whatever this Administration requests because the Biden/Mayorkis regime was painful
He reports that many civilians on the street have positive words of welcome and encouragement.

It’s sad, but these people broke the law to get here and stay here. They thought they could get away with it for a long time, and many did, but the party’s over. I get it; their home countries are hell holes. Who wouldn’t want to get out? But there’s a right way to do it, and they went around that right way. Now their lives are being destroyed, and they have only themselves to blame. 2/3 of the world’s population wants to be here. If we took in only a fraction, it would ruin us for good.
It’s not personal...It’s strictly business.
That’s probably a low amount. There would likely be tens of thousands of illegals in any large city in the United States.

I can think of smaller cities in Oregon that have 20,000 and cartels galore.
I’m sure the cartels are paying everyone handsomely from city cops and mayors clear up to Gov Kotex, Waxface Wyden and Jeff Jerkley.
If ICE can get 5K criminals, they deserve the key to the city. Here’s hoping they can accomplish this goal.

I totally agree.
For a metropolitan area like NO, I think we could add a zero or two to that 5,000 number and be about right.
