Too-close Tennessee election warns GOP: Damning the left isn’t enough
NY Post ^ | 1 Dec 2025 | Glenn H Reynolds

Tuesday is a big day for Tennessee, and for the closely divided US House of Representatives.

Democrats have been vowing to turn red states blue, and last month’s elections gave them some hopeful signs, thanks largely to revved-up urban voters.

This week a special election in Tennessee’s 7th District, pitting GOP military veteran Matt Van Epps against far-left candidate Aftyn Behn, will show them just how far their base can take them.

Going by conventional wisdom, this should be a walkover for Van Epps: The district leans Republican by 10 percentage points, and Van Epps’ policy positions echo those of the previous incumbent, former Rep. Mark Green, who resigned in July to launch a new business.

But redistricting in 2020 made the 7th somewhat less rural than it had been, as statehouse Republicans tried to boost the party’s chances elsewhere.

This crazy loon is about to win tomorrow’s race. I have no hope our lazy stupid Republican base will turn out in droves. For a rat party that’s flatlining I’m shocked that they’re winning election after election… they’ve got the momentum and I fear the 2026 midterms are slipping out of our hands. I fear for President Trump for what the rats will put him through if they win the house. Wake the hell up people the rats are making inroads while we are going backwards! What the hell is wrong with people! Just get your asses up and go fking vote! Why is it so fking how hard to just to go vote?!!!!!!
Ugh!!!!

The 19th amendment introduced the slow poison. There is no antidote. Women would have to vote themselves off the island. Ain’t gonna happen.

And yet she's polling within 2 points of Epps.

I have an uneasy feeling she's going to win. We've just been sucking in these special elections lately.

TURNOUT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING

I read an important study once that said that democrat turn out is nearly constant, and so every single race gets decided by the strength of GOP turn out.

The only thing the people hate worse than Democrats - is Republicans.

With good reason.

She won't win. It's a red district. But it may be close.

The Democrats will mobilize their crazies to vote.

Why is it so fking how hard to just to go vote?!!!!!! Ugh!!!!

The problem with a two-party system in a nutshell - when both deserve to lose, what to do?

The GOP has had two congressional majorities under President Trump, 2017-2019 and 2025-2027.

They have done nothing of value, while the nation they are supposed to be protecting and defending falls apart.

They deserve to lose, and that's what's going to happen.

And a lot of people, who keep repeating the idiot Reagan's quote about "I'm from the government and I'm here to help" are a lot of the reason.

Fixing the country requires acquiring and wielding State power. The Democrats want it and have a plan for what thjye are going to do when they get it. The Republicans don't want it, hate it when they have it, and as a result do nothing with it when the People trust them with it.

You cannot beat something with nothing. The GOP is nothing. They deserve nothing, and that's what they are about to get.

"Fixing the country requires acquiring and wielding State power."

Not for a constitutional conservative. The reverse is the truth.

Fixing the country requires acquiring and abolishing State power. We've suffered enough under the boot of centralization over the last 125 years since the progressive era.

I could be specific. The U.S. would be greatly enhanced by abolishing Obamacare. Greatly enhanced by abolishing the Patriot Act. Greatly enhanced by abolishing the Department of Education. Matter of fact, about 100 agencies could be named here. Abolish the EPA, DOT, FCC, FDA, FBI, DOI, ATF, BLM, OSHA...... I feel like every time I do this half the list is different.
