Trust is like a bridge built over years but burned in moments. For generations, American parents have walked their children across that bridge each morning, delivering them into the care of teachers and administrators who promised to guard them like their own. But what happens when the guardians become the very danger parents sought to protect their children from?
Across Colorado, that bridge is collapsing. School districts that once partnered with families in raising children have transformed into ideological fortresses, operating in shadows and silence. Parents send permission slips for field trips, imagining museums and monuments. They pack lunches and spending money, trusting that the adults in charge share their basic commitment to child safety and common sense.
They trust because what’s the alternative – homeschooling every kid in America? They trust because for decades, that trust was earned. They trust because the alternative – that schools would deliberately deceive them about their children’s safety – seems unthinkable in America.
Then came June 2023, when Joe and Serena Wailes sent their 11-year-old daughter on what seemed like an educational adventure to Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. Their fifth-grader was excited about the trip, traveling with classmates to see the birthplace of American liberty. What happened instead was a lesson in how far our institutions have fallen. The little girl found herself assigned to share not just a room, but a bed, with a biological male from another school. When she realized what was happening, she fled to the bathroom in terror to call her mother.
From the mother to The Daily Signal:
“We were definitely not aware of that before we went on the trip. [Our daughter] was terrified and really upset. She was in the bathroom crying, calling us from the hotel room.”
The school district’s “solution” was to move the boy to share a bed with a different girl in another room. Problem solved, apparently. Did anyone ask the second girl how she felt about her new bedmate? Of course not. Jefferson County Public Schools has a policy of rooming students by “gender identity rather than sex” – a policy they conveniently forgot to mention to parents before collecting permission slips and checks.
This wasn’t an isolated incident. Court documents reveal another case where 11-year-old boys at a school camp were assigned an 18-year-old female counselor who “identified as non-binary” to supervise them overnight. The pattern is crystal clear: schools across Colorado are conducting social experiments with other people’s children, treating kids like props in their progressive theater.
The first court to hear the Wailes family’s case dismissed it. Dismissed it. As if an 11-year-old girl’s terror at being forced to share a bed with a male stranger is just collateral damage in the march toward enlightenment. Thankfully, Alliance Defending Freedom has appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals, because apparently – and I can’t believe I’m writing this – we now need federal judges to confirm that little girls shouldn’t be forced to share beds with boys.
Let me be clear about what “progress” looks like in 2025 America. Schools that hide their policies from parents. Courts that shrug when children are traumatized. Administrators who believe their ideology trumps both biology and parental rights. They’ll accommodate everyone except families who dare to believe that sex is real and that children deserve protection.
The Wailes family and others are fighting back, but they shouldn’t have to. No parent should need a legal team to ensure their daughter isn’t forced to share a bed with a male on a school trip. This isn’t complicated. It’s not nuanced. It’s insanity wearing the mask of compassion, and I’m done pretending otherwise.
The bridge of trust is burning, but perhaps that’s not entirely bad. Sometimes structures need to collapse before we realize they’ve been rotting from within. Parents across Colorado and America are waking up to a hard truth: the people demanding our trust are the very ones who’ve proven themselves unworthy of it. The shepherds have become wolves, and it’s time we stopped pretending otherwise while delivering our lambs to their door.

Hope the parents win in their lawsuit against the school district. All parents should be outraged about this.
Pain and Suffering are going to be huge on this one as the damages can be for life.
I suggest the School board folds and apologizes immediately.
Evil needs to hang from lampposts.
I was about 45 years old before I ever saw a transgender person...nowadays these schools seem to have multiple per CLASS. Ridiculous society we are living in.
I honestly cannot fathom the mindset of the non-trans people who support this crap. It is one of the most astonishing runs of mass self-delusion our society has ever seen.
