Remarks, read as thinly veiled critique of government, come amid public spat with Defense Minister Israel Katz over latter's selective promotion of senior IDF officers.
IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen Eyal Zamir said Wednesday that Israel needs 'courageous, transformative' leadership that does not 'evade' responsibility, in remarks that seemed to be a thinly veiled criticism of the government.
The comments came amid a public spat with Defense Minister Israel Katz over the military October 7 investigations and senior appointments in the Israel Defense Forces.

Most Israelis want an independent probe of October 7th to let the chips fall where they may but Netanyahu refuses to go there.
The High Court asking the government to explain by January 4th why there will not such an inquiry.
This week General Zamir purged the ranks of more than a dozen officers seen as responsible for failures on October 7th.
There's a fight with the Defense Minister Netanyahu said to be 'mediating'.
The western countries need to keep their noses out of Israel’s foreign affairs. Just turn Israel loose on Gaza to destroy Hamas, also let them destroy Hezbollah and the many terrorist groups that Israel has to deal with. Netanyahu is a good strong leader. Just take off the handcuffs.
